As a Bad Company 2 player I can say this:
Headshots get the job done better and it is a manifestation of skill to headshot someone across the Map. It is, however, unnecessary. If you use the M95/GOL/VS98 it doesn't matter what part you hit, mostly it just gets the job done at medium range.
At long range, I'm always a very convenient target, but people tend to not be able to kill me because they don't aim for the head(in fact, people don't hit me much because they have quite poor aiming skills at long range). So headshots are something one should try to make, but I don't think that they're actually needed if you're at medium distance and your sniper rifle will kill the guy with a shot to anywhere on his body anyway.
