Not often. I bought the Severed DLC for Dead Space 2, and I've bought a few extra songs for Rock Band if that counts, but that's it. There are a few other games where I'm at least considering getting the DLC, but new games are kind of higher on my buy list than small bits of games I already have.

It would only be the same if all the DLC money went to the programmer or something because they didn't get paid enough by the developer. A tip doesn't go to the house is what i'm saying.
That's a very interesting point, and one that I don't think a lot of us consider fully. I wonder if there's a way to figure out where that money actually goes.

I got the ones for Fallout 3, which were alright. I usually like it if they come with GOTY or something, like Oblivion. I just bought Fallout: New Vegas and the two DLCs that are out for it since they were all dirt cheap on Steam.

I steer clear of DLC in general, buying them just isn't worth the hassle

*cuddles Killing Floor Steampunk Pack* winning them on the other hand.

If I want to extend a game I like, of course. Quoted from someone else in the thread: "Yes, I do. I buy DLC for games I like.

It's like tipping at a Restaurant - if a game is good, I give the developers some extra money. Plus it makes the game longer. It's win-win."
This. Also, i'm not an entitled twat. When a game is delivered complete and then additional content is made available to extend that game, it really is a win-win. And i would argue that any game with 100+ hours of play time for a single play-through is more than complete. Thus, even the launch-day DLC for Dragon Age 1 is worthwhile to me, although i admit that the way it was implemented was a little skeevy.

Tipping is NOT optional in a restaurant, whereas DLC is. Servers get paid lower minimum wage than the rest of us so tipping is how they survive.
Good job assuming everyone lives in America with America's absurd tipping culture.

Music for rock band and anything that significantly enriches the story.
That can't really be any DLC, though, can it? If it were significant, I'd figure that it'd be in the finished game.
Why?
Much DLC is an entirely new story in its own right, set in the same world, such as the new Bioshock 2 DLC. And look at the GTA4 DLC, a huge enrichment to the story, without compromising the original at all.
Other games have DLC that add entirely new game modes, significantly expanding your game.

Some DLC is near worthless, you could even say most is worth a lot less than is charged, but that doesn't mean it all is.

I didn't assume it, I deduced it. It is certainly possible you live in a country outside of America, I even almost added something to my post to that effect, but from the information I have, it seems extremely unlikely.

So, tell me, where do you live then?

Kind of. Only is it's really good or if I've been waiting for it for a while now.

*is semi-patiently awaiting more MvC3 DLC* >.>

Never,

i refuse to be sold parts of a game that should allready be in there (or vanity items that add nothing to it)
If developers want to make more money of an IP that is fine with me, but make it worth my while like a solid expansion pack...then we can be in business!

Yeah I do if I really like a game. I'll draw the line at horse armour and weapons/visors/armour though lol

I have spent quite a bit of sims stuff. Becuase I really enjoy building on that game.

Unlockable free DLC is kind of fun like getting 'Ser Issac's' armour for DA2 from DS2. Or the belt from watching Penny Arcades comic.

Depends on the DLC. Some games, like Mass Effect and Fallout provided interesting enough DLC to make me buy it. (Hell, most of Fallout 3's DLC was more interesting than the actual game. Red Dead Redemption only got me interested in it's DLC with the addition of Undead Nightmare.

I bought all DLC for RDR, because it was great DLC, and because the game by itself was worth more than 60 bucks.

If it's a game I liked, I indeed did, I pretty much feel obliged to purchase Bioware DLC, it's usually fantastic and I don't mind giving those guys more of my money, except for DA2, I want my money back on that one.

that is the primary reason i buy games new and dlc that others may not think worth it (yes including horse armor). i like the game, i approve of the game as a whole, i want to reward the people who made it possible

Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, and several others have been the recipients of my extra cash, and I have not regretted it.
This isn't to say anything against those titles in particular, but those are EXACTLY the games I don't want to buy DLC for, because they're already huge and I barely had time to play what was already in them the first time around. There comes a point when a guy really just wants a game to be over, you know?
See, I loved those games, so making them go on longer was great. With Awakening, Shale, and all the others (I've gotten every single DLC for Dragon Age Origins) I doubled the length of gameplay.

I have played through that game twice - that's all of it, Origins and Awakenings and all the DLC.

On Mass Effect two, the Cerberus Network and Arrival don't double the game length, but it adds several hours and some great missions (even if Arrival doesn't make much sense). Plus, I've handed Bioware a big old tip for making two of my very favorite games. When Legacy for Dragon Age 2 comes out later this month, I'll be buying that too. ^^
Y'know, this made me think back to the days of being a kid and playing The Legend of Zelda games over and over 'cause I loved them so much. Oh, what I would have given to have had an additional cave to explore with a new item to find and maybe a new boss. Or perhaps a challenge mode with waves of monsters. I really like the idea of DLC and I'm glad that it's something that's become more emphasised in modern gaming and I daresay Nintendo should take this on, too. While I do agree that sometimes a game just needs to end, I love the idea of having the option for additional content for a game I already love and enjoy.
The Awakening and The Lair of the Shadow Broker are two very good examples of this. :)
