Poll: Do you call it Soda, Pop or something else?

I just call them fizzy drinks, something that one of my american friends took quite a shining to, so they're spreading that there, keep an eye out for it.

Typically I stick to the name of the specific drink ie Doctor Pepper, Pepsi.... but if I use an umberalla term as someone put it I call them Sodas

because beer is a wide variety, and nearly all of them taste identical, and those that don't you would ask specifically for it. 'Fanta' can fall under many categories, simply because its the widest orange flavored soft drink, everyone knows what Fanta is, and if they dont have it, they just say no

Never has a non-beer drinker been so obvious.

ive drunk beer before, cheap ones and more expensive ones, I don't see the point as it all tastes terrible and all tastes the same

I just call them carbonated drinks. When I am referring to any specific drink I always call it by name.

If I'm drinking Coke I call it Coke
If I'm drinking Mountain Dew, I call it Mountain Dew
If I'm drinking Sprite, I call it Sprite
If I'm drinking Tango, I call it Tango...

I think you can see where I'm going with this, I never realy use the word pop, soda or any other mass incorporative word for bicarbonated drinks, I just call it by its brand name so as to avoid all confusion

I'm from western Pennsylvania in the States, so I will never call it anything but pop.

I call it by the name of the actual product.
As far as I'm aware, in the UK 'soda' never really took off unless you were referring to the canisters used for the soda stream (awww man, I miss my old school soda stream, none of this newly designed stuff...) and 'pop' I've never heard used here.

I just call it 'coke' or 'lemonade' or whatever it is I'm going to drink - so I picked other

I just call it pop, a can/bottle or a can/bottle of pop. Not heard anyone in Briton ever use the word Soda unironically. Most think its a strictly American word. That being said, I haven't travelled all of Briton so I wouldn't know for sure.

Yep, soft drink in Australia primarily, never heard anyone call it pop, maybe soda but rarely.

I refer to everything drinkable that isnt, tea, Coffe, Alcoholic, Milk, Water, or Coke as Juice.

Since its already been established that Australians call it soft drink: i tend to go with whatever flavor the drink is especially if i don't know which brand of drink the kiosk is selling. If i ask for 'orange" i know ill be getting Fanta, Sunkist, or cheap orange drink. If i ask for 'lemon' i know ill be getting either solo, Lift or lemon squash. Otherwise the brand names , coke is coke, Pepsi is the devil and i grab mountain Dew when i can

Soda. "Coke" isn't even a word and I never understood what "pop" is meant to be referring to.

If I want to be a snob I say "carbonated soft drink" or just refer to the brand name.

You mean soft drinks? That's what we Aussie's call carbonated beverages. Though if you mean Mountain Dew, we call it Mountain Dew.

I'm going to take a stab and guess that we call it 'Soft Drink' because Alcohol is a 'Hard Drink' and we are drunk a lot of the time?

Everyone in Australia (and from the UK by the looks of it) calls it 'Soft Drink'. This includes Bogans, Poor People, Losers, and Retards as well as the Snobs.

I call it 'frisdrank' as I'm dutch. Soda is an alkalic fluid (soda carbonate) here.

In English, I honestly wouldnt know how I could call it. I don't drink drinks with bubbles in it, I find it disgusting. I think I would go with Soda as Pop sound ridiculous to me

From my 19 years of experience, I'd say that here in the midwest US, we say Pop.

20 years of being in the midwest and I refuse to call it pop because I feel like a little kid when I say it.

I call it soda when referring to a carbonated beverage but not by a specific brand. I live in South Dakota, which is about as rural America as you can get, and the common phrase is pop, or oke even when referring to Pepsi or Barks, sometimes soda-pop comes up, but soda isn't extremely common.
