Hmmm, I fear more about the death of family members, or my family's reaction to my death. By caring about my family, by proxy, I worry about dying, but I'm not so sure about death. I definitely fear pain, though.

No. I'm a bit concerned about the method and circumstance, but I'm not afraid of what's after. Being religious helps there.

Death itself, not so much. Everyone dies. What I fear is the dying part. Getting old and having your body shut down piece by piece until you're nothing but a burden to other people.
Or dying in a painful way. Burning to death, drowning, poison. Quick and painless is how I prefer to go.

Honestly not really, I think mostly because I don't really concern myself with thinking about what happens once you die. You're obviously not going to find out until you die, so why worry about something that's going to happen anyway and that you won't find out about until then?

Do I do not. I do not look for it but when it comes I will not run because I can't outrun it so I might as well face it with a little pride.

But death is the greatest adventure! And some would say it's the only adventure ;)

Seriously though, when it happens, it happens. I've learned not to sweat it.

I have no concrete beliefs or disbeliefs regarding what the end will be like... I just know that nobody gets out alive in the end, and so what?

I don't fear death, I fear how it comes to me. Dying peacefully in a bed surrounded by the people I love sounds nice, falling into a vat of sulfuric acid does not.

I share your opinion of the afterlife and I have to say, no I am not. I don't want to die by any means but thinking about or even fearing it isn't going to make it come any slower.

Yes. If I were told I was going to die soon, I would inexorably lose my shit.
Your going to die soon.

Relatively speaking of course :p.

Responding to the original posters question: Don't think of it as simply the end of existence, nobody knows that for sure, but the answer to the greatest mystery Humanity has ever known. I'm almost EXCITED to die just to see whats on the other side.

...almost that is.

Logically it is right to fear death if you do not believe in an afterlife, it is the curse of intelligence. Of course if you follow that logic through to the end then life is irrelevant if you have a truly non-religious view on the world.
This is why religion is welcomed in many areas of the world, because it provides hope and existence, giving meaning to living. Whether it is true or not is up to you, but anything that lets people progress humankind instead of dwelling on death and inevitability is a worthwhile pursuit.

not entirely. i would fear the pain that may come with dying, but if it were quick, even if i knew i was going to die, i think i would be okay with it. of course then again, i'm not staring death in the face at this moment, so who knows how i'll really react when the flying dutchman comes flying in on his krabby patty ship to steal my pickle shaped soul. wait, i'm a ginger, i have no soul to steal. take that flying dutchman!

That's just it, I'm an Atheist. My convictions are sealed. I believe all that awaits me is perennial black nothingness, hence I am afraid of death. Not now obviously, but as aformentioned when I reach an age or a time when it will dawn very near.

Not so much scared as dismayed about the inevitability of death.
This life is all we have. It'd really be a shame to lose it.

Well, I don't want to die, but fear it?

Actaully, fuck yes. what happens? Am I right, and do we just putter out into nothingness? No nothing, no matter, no mind? Or are religions correct, and there is/are a god/gods up on some throne, waiting to pass judgement on my unbeleiving soul?

So death, no. It's what comes after that gives me chills...

Death comes for us all, and there isn't a damn thing we could do about it. I say live life on the edge, and if you're not, you're taking too much space.

Ask me on a whim, I'll say "Nopes, I'm not afraid.". Because death usually comes unexpectedly.

Tell me that three days from now I will be murdered by a man with a butcher knife (and lets say that I know it is true what you say) then yes, I will slowly but surely get very terrified for my death.
I am going to murder you with a rusty butter knife in three days.
...Ok, deep breaths *Haaaaah...Huuuuuuuuh* Calm down...

...

SPIRIT BEGONE! Kill it! KILL IT WITH FIRE!
So what u gonna do is take a crash course in self defense, and kick the shit outta dude with the rusty butter knife.

Yes.

I have panic attacks if I think about it too much.

So now I'm leaving this thread forever.

Good-bye!
But don't you think it would be less scary if it wasn't such a taboo subject?
