I have a Pink DS Lite that I use to play Pokemon and Professor Layton on. I won't upgrade because then I can't play the older Pokemon games on it.
That's my problem, yes. Well, 'problem'... my inconvenience.

I was going to say I've got a DS Lite, but I keep forgetting that I sold it to my parents. They were looking to buy one, I was looking to trade mine in... so we went half way between the price I'd get for it and the price they'd pay for it in a shop. £50. Good deal for both of us I reckon. Particularly since they use it every day without fail and I used it maybe once every couple of months. It's particularly good for my dad, he had a couple of minor strokes a few years ago so anything that keeps his brain active is well worth doing.

Before that, I had the original weird looking silver thing, which I got on release day.

[small](...and before anyone says it: no, I couldn't just let them play it when I wasn't using it, I live a hundred miles away.)[/small]

I'll defend them 'till I die.

Because I find the originals to be the WORST.

The series quality goes like this:

D/P/P > G/S/C > R/S/E > R/B/Y

I'm immune to nostalgia.
That would explain it, since I'm constantly drowning in nostalgia.

From the first games I honestly can't think of a single pokemon I hate and the second generation continued this, with the only possible exception of Dunsparce (fuck that thing).
The second generation also added a lot of stuff; color, berries, repeatable trainer battles.
The third, while having mostly stupid Pokemon, did improve on a lot of things: the graphics were better, berries actually got believable names instead of PSNCUREBERRY, they added contests, and out of all the bad guys from the Pokemon series, Team Aqua and Team Magma were still somewhat believable, and not just being evil for the sake of being evil.
And then we have Diamond and Pearl.
Pokemon I actually like dwindled to about a handful and they made contests worse in my opinion, along with secret bases. The baddies not only returned to their stupid motivations, they also gained weird haircuts this time. Sure, they did include online trading, and fighting trainers again got a whole lot easier thanks to the VS Seeker, but still...

So I'd say my rating would be Gold/Silver/Crystal > Red/Blue/Yellow > Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald > Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.
Being immune to nostalgia has also helped me to realize that the Gold/Silver remakes are going to be the best. They take the awesomeness of Gold/Silver and mix it with the enhanced mechanics of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.

I've owned every iteration of the DS. Lets see, I had two 'Brick' DSs, two DS Lites and a DSi. I got the DSi at the midnight launch. Yeah I had nothing better to do

Even I with my nostalgia-riddled body realize the awesomeness that is going to be HeartGold and Soulsilver. Though SoulSilver will be slightly awesome-er.

Lugia get 3 super attacks. Hydro Pump, Aeroblast, and even Psychic.

Even with lower offensive stats, this thing is beastly.

Ho-oh gets...Sacred Fire.

I mean, each game has both pokemon, but still.

Ho-oh is very pretty though, he's earned that much.

I have a DS Lite.

I have seen no reason to upgrade yet, there isn't a game out that makes me feel the need to get the camera/whatever else it has.

I won't be buying much from the little store it has on it, I think anyway.

I'm thinking about getting a PSP instead and playing all the games on that side I haven't yet.

I got the DSi the day it was released (class starts late so I had plenty of time) I use all the features along with actually playing games, I find the camera pretty handy since I love taking photos.

I skipped the DSlite since it didn't appeal to me being a partly improved DS but the DSi added all that other stuff so yeah.

Hmm, interesting...

If you don't have old GBA games, then the DSi is probably the right purchase.

nope. Not interested. I'm going to try to find a used ds lite sometime when I have the cash.

Only because the GBA has no back light.

If you're only going to play GBA games, then you may be better off with a GBA SP or even a Game Boy Micro.

I meant that's why I'd go with the lite instead of dsi. There are some good DS games out there that I would love to play.

I still rock my original DS w/ the Nintendogs skin on it. (I was 14, the puppies are cute, and shut it!)
