I definitely agree. I'm 22 and I always invert. For my it's not "push up to look down", we hold controllers horizontally anyway (at least I do), so it's really more "push forward to go down" exactly like a flight sim, or flying a real aircraft, and for me, these sorts of controls just translated directly to FPSes like the original 007 Goldeneye (which was, and still is AWESOME). It's just how joysticks work in my mind.

I'm 26, and I don't invert for 'loose' crosshairs (i.e. ones that roam across the screen- see Rez) or for mouse control on the PC (I imagine that's pretty rare to invert mice- trackballs, sure, but not mice).

I do invert on consoles, and I believe that's due to a lot of flight games (i.e. when using thumbsticks, I've been primed for inverted controls by N64 flight games, like Pilot Wings).

I tend to keep it normal. However, I am able to use inverted, it's just I never really saw the point of it.

20 and normal.

However! I use to play inverted. And I have no idea why I stopped. I literally can't remember when or why it happened, other than it was about when I was 13 or 14.

Looks like there is no significant statistical correlation. Better luck next experiment.
Well frankly, there is a pretty obvious correlation: The older one is, the more likely it is they will prefer inverted. Look at the ratio increase between each age group.

5% 13-16
10% 16-19
18% 20-24
36% 25+

(rounded, and at time of writing)

It's nearly a geometric increase.
That's what I was thinking. It's not as strong of a correlation as I was expecting (I was thinking that by the time you hit 25, it would be over half of the population), but it's a pretty strong correlation all the same. Inverted aim isn't very popular overall, but it's more popular with older gamers.
I think its odd that your number of polled inverted people is relatively constant in each age group. With the exception of the first group each has about 50-ish people. The sample sizes vary but the inverted number hold mostly constant giving larger percentages in smaller groups. Weird.

I was actually surprised it was over a third at any point. I don't play inverted, and I have only one or two friends who do.

I hadn't thought about it, but as soon as I saw your thread, I expected something like the correlation that emerged. I expected it to be more of a spike around my age group (25) rather than a more noticeable curve.

Cool thread! *thumbs-up*

I am 19 an I always played inverted. I grew up using an N64, and the shooters I played were inverted. It's a habit that I'm proud of and symbolizes my age as a gamer (see poll).

I will say, however, that some of my friends get frustrated when switching controllers with me - sometimes we take turns playing shooters online.

25+ and normal. I try to stick as close as possible to the default control scheme since I never know where and on who's console/controller I'll be playing, and fiddling with a control scheme while friends are anxiously waiting to shoot me makes me feel like a tool.

whats the plural of axis? Axii. Axises, Axis'?.
Axes. Pronounced Ax-ees.

OT. 29, Inverted. Probably beaten into me by playing hours of X-wing and Tie Fighter.

Off topic: God! How good was Tie fighter?

Inverted on gamepad, not inverted on mouse. So what should I take?
Also, 20.

23 and I invert. This is the best way I can make sense of it I think of the thumbstick as the back of my head rather than the front. If I pull my head back I look up if I push my head forward I look down. The only time I don't invert is on PC because that is just a whole different method of aiming.

20 and it varies for me; while I generally never invert the vertical axis some days I'll play with the horizontal control on normal, and other days inverted. I don't really know why... I think some games I have just default differently so I've gotten use to both choices.

Although my hands love screwing with me - if I'm having trouble playing inverted, I'll go normal just to have my hands react as if I'm still inverted. >.<
