I know what I want to do (game programmer). It's just getting there that's gonna be the hard part.

That really depends where you are. Over here in the UK, a decent degree (a 2.1 or a 1st in local parlance) is enough to get you through the door for most things, and most employers aren't especially interested in anything you've done at university.
