I've talked to my German teacher once and he said that WW1 and WW2 is omitted in German schools. The wars is of coarse a uncomfortable topic to Germans.

THE OPPOSITE is true. In German schools you get so many topics in all social / cultural related courses there is NO chance that you don´t know about the WW1 Nazies, the Holocaust and WW2, even if you opt out of school at the earliest possible chance.

I HOPED there is zero tolerance for drink and drive.
Today you can have 4 promille of alcohol in your blood an get away.
It was in ex-DDR (GDR) eastern Germany where they had zero tolerance for alcohol.

Well you are right about the history stuff, but about the alcohol you are wrong.
For everyone under 21 and all novice drivers you have zero-tolerance - otherwise it's 0.5 per mill, but if there are deficits in your driving even less can be a misdemeanour.
Some northern european countries have 0.2

I've never been to Germany but the exchange students I knew were top flight people. So, that said, there has to be some good things about it. At least about the people. Of course they both reported to me that people in Germany were colder than people in America, and didn't seem to care about other people the way Americans did. I'll have to wonder if these people then were outliers. Without the ability to know I'll have to leave my opinion at favorable.

Its a brilliant place to be, speaking as a Brit its not too much colder than the UK and its quite normal generally, can't say there's anything thats really bad about it, apart from the whole having to bail out silly countries on the Euro..

I just finished a 3 week German study tour where we stayed with host families. It is a very nice place but a little weird or unusual to me (Diet Coke is Coke Light, Driving on the right-hand side etc) nothing major just a bit odd I find, coming from Australia. But yes I do like Germany and I do think Germany is a wonderful place given we also visited Paris and it is absolutely horrid.

I never said that modern Germans don't know about the war. My teacher for last semester is about late 20s early 30s. I'm not sure how education in German schools about the war changed over the years. I'm not an expert and I was just quoting what my teacher says. I only had 1 year of German.

I like Germany for the culture, the brewing pot of lifestyles, social society and of course the food (mainly the drinks that go WITH the food.). Berlin is a beautifull city (beautifully scarred that is.) with lots of cultural sightseeings, museums, places to go out to and it's city life is so different.

Berlin is about as large as one of our provinces, wich is mad if you think about it. It's definitly worth checking out at least ONCE in your life.

The thing about WWII is not even playing a part in all this. Todays generation is not responsible for the previous generations actions.
