Poll: Do you like RPG's?

I love them.
Though i lean toward JRPGs more than WRPGs.

Any really good JRPGs you can suggest? Preferably something that would appeal to a person who enjoys WRPGs? Would like to give them a shot, am not a fan of japanese art style, crazy hairdoos and all that jazz, but if it's a good game, I'd like to try one

Examples of the ones I liked: Morrowind, Oblivion, DA:O (prefer the first/third person RPGs tho), ME2, Alpha Protocol etc.

edit: oh and preferably a recent release, I hate dealing with outdated graphics (doesn't need to be awesome, just not too outdated) and old gameplay/controls

The newest Dragon Quest Game has a really deep level of Personal Customization.
It is really stylistic but supposedly a ton of fun, and its going to be supported with a lot of free Downloadable Content thought the year.
Its on the DS.

And if your willing to try a more leniear game Golden Sun and Golden Sun 2:The lost Age are both Excellent Games.
The characters are Preset but you can customize many things from the Typical Armor and equipped items to their Classes and Skills(Psynergy).
I enjoyed the 2nd one more than the first but they really should be played in order.
And the Artwork and Battle Graphics are really something to look at.
Its Anime/Manga style but its not overly Crazy.

Both are typical Turn Biased Games though.
Phantasy Star is the only Series that i can think of that follows a Morrowind Style.

Wooo boy, I loves me sum Arr Pee Gees! Anyways, I like 'em all really, spiky-haired, angsty, 10-year-olds saving the world in JRPGS; swords, orcs, and naked wenches in WRPGs; or even people capturing, taming, and forcing animals with superpowers to fight RPGs. I think, that it should be a given that I only like the good ones, despite the immense amount of stating-the-obvious in this thread.

I'm not who plays RPG's that often, but that doesn't mean I don't like them.
I just can't seem to find any that aren't turn-based besides Fallout 3, Borderlands, Elder Scrolls and Mass Effect.

And sadly no, i don't play that many PC games.
And i don't think there are any JRPGs on the PC.
Tust VNs, RTSs, and TBSs.

Which is why I'm looking forward to New Vegas, I liked the Fallout 3 Bethesda made, and it seems that it keeps its gameplay, but it won't have the god-awful Bethesda writing and character animations, it'll have Obsidian's dark writing.

As I said, the character animations and writing. I have to say though that they were considerably better in Fallout 3 than in any Bethesda game that they had made until that point. I'm probably too harsh on it, though, since the story really was pretty good, and it kept me playing.

Have you ever played Oblivion? That's a good game and its sort of long, there's a very wide variety on what you can do in game, and i didn't think the character animations and writing were to bad.

Yes, actually. I have played Oblivion. I don't really know the reason I didn't like it, because it's so similar to Fallout 3, and I liked Fallout 3. Maybe it's my dislike of fantasy in general, and my love of sci-fi, maybe it's because I didn't comprehend the leveling system, the only way you could level up was if you'd sleep (if I remember correctly), maybe it was because I didn't like the Oblivion towers (if that was their name), or maybe it's because I like guns.

i LIVE for RPG's. Its my favorite game genre by a landslide. Speaking mainly of the really epic long rich story driven ones. like Breath of Fire and Diablo. Long live the RPG's!!!

You'll be hard pushed to find someone who doesn't like RPGs here, the Western varient, anyway. JRPGs on the other hand, well, you'd probably need a flame shield for even mentioning them.

I enjoy both WRPG and JRPG. They both offer different things, for example JRPGs have an indepth focused story, which due to it being the only path, it is much better developed. WRPGs give you the ability of choice, allowing to shape your experience more.

Yes that's exactly why RPG's are my favorite genre, it's something about the freedom of choice and not having to stick to the beaten path.

Yea I liked both, Oblivion because I like the sword swinging, arrow flying, brute against brute type action and the fact that they had so many things ingame you could do (i haven't beaten it yet) and i haven't played much Fallout maybe 2 or 3 hours of it and it was fun I liked the need for actually skill in aiming (besides the auto thing that takes your power away.)

I did when they were rpgs, when events from lower levels could haunt you at higher. When it was about you making morale choices and less about you "leveling up your sword and shield"

But that also comes down to whats a rpg anymore, since some peoples narrow defintions classify pacman as a rpg...

I miss the real/good ones yeah...

Fall out 1 and 2.
Daggerfall
Many of the older SSI DND games. Dark Queen of Kyrnn, Forgotten Realms ect.
Balurdurs gate 1
Phantasy Star 3 (yes it falls into a connect a dot game but since you could pick who you married over generations, if allowed you to make your children stronger warriors or mages)
Kotor 1
FF7 for if anything the storyline.

Yes they required imagination, your dealing with vga graphics and much of your text was in a manual at your side.

But many of the newer games seem to lack consequences, freedom to grind as you wish, and if you wanted to go to that dragons cave at level 2 your shouldn't... nothing stopped you. I dislike the Neverwinter set loot you will be this level at this time of the adventure type of game.

Guess also there was a charm about being your own made persona and not someone elses hero. Fable was close to being damn near perfect for the new age short of the physical changes as levels went on... why is casting spells making me bald and using a sword growing a beard? Strange I know, but as a player I like to make a hero and stick to it.

And above all else the story telling.
There are a few more rare jrpg titles I could throw in. But I'll stick to the top of my list.

I agree, Story telling is very important to the game, and since the story has so much to do with the actual game in RPG's there's no need to play the game if you don't like the story.

I haven't played many JRPG's myself but they seem to be popular and i have some friends who play nothing but Japanese games, I'm more of a WRPG person myself.

just about every game has RPG elements and games themselves are playing the role of another character. In my opinion it would be foolish for any gamer to say they don't like or play RPGs. (unless of course they exclusively play collapse or online poker lol)

I like RPGs.

WRPG and JRPG both have their goodies and their flaws. I tend to like JRPGs more.

My main problem with WRPG is that you're main character is a pen and paper. That, and the morality system is in need of serious work.

So I will simply say that I like good RPGs and I dislike bad ones. What is good and what is bad is up to my own personal preferences.

I like WRPG's the most, like Planescape:Torment or Dragon Age. They seem to be really what a an RPG should be. I think that JRPGs are just adventure games with a level up system.

I consider myself and RPG addicted, either JRPG or western RPG's I love them all...though I will admit I only tend to play the good onces but yes, I do love RPG games.
