Poll: Do you lower the difficulty setting if you find a game too hard? (Somewhat Skyrim related)

Never below normal. Several games recently have started me out on the hardest difficulty setting, Skyrim and Arkham City, and I did "lower" those once I realized. I like a challenge, and I can handle some frustration, but if I'm constantly reloafding that really breaks the immersion.

I change the difficulty to reflect a moderate challenge.

In skyrim for example one of my characters plays on master, and the game only kills me when I don't play well.

On another character I play on Adept, and the game only kills me when I don't play well.

If the weaker character would play on master the game wouldn't be fun, since it would be practically impossible.

Not usually. Only in a few special cases.

Call of Duty 4 - the mission "Heat". Yeah, fuck that mission. Reduced it to Hardened from Veteran. That mission was damn-near impossible to beat.

Mass Effect 2 - Was planning on doing a hardcore/insane run like I did in ME1, but the higher difficulties just made the already boring-as-hell gameplay even more boring. So I didn't do that.

Dragon Age Origins - I was just on Normal, but the fight with Branka was just ball-bustingly difficult. I made it even worse on myself since I didn't have a mage in the party, and not many health potions. Even on easy that battle was a huge pain in the ass.

Pertaining to Skyrim - a couple of times I've wanted to lower the difficulty, but I just left the dungeon/ruin/whatever, did other things, leveled up, then came back and stomped on everyone.

I think I lowered the difficulty once. Most of the time I'm a good judge of my skills and how hard a game looks and choose the perfect setting from the beginning. Most of the time it's normal but if a game is known for being hard I change it to easy immediately. I HAVE NO DIGNITY!

For Catherine, oh yes. I will never, ever, ever play it on Normal *ever* again. It made me want to hurl my controller across the room so much that I feel it was bad game design to make the "normal" difficulty that darn hard.
Oh, you can't play normal on the first play-through of Catherine.

The second play-through though, I've been doing fairly well on "normal" - after some of those later levels, the early levels on normal weren't that hard anymore. :p
