I dont generally play as other genders because I cant really get into the mindset of a lady person all to well. Do I have a problem with those who do? nope. Will I ask why they play the opposite gender? yeah, It's interesting to hear what their answer is.

Allow me to just repeat what I said yesterday in a similar thread, its not ENTIRELY on topic, but its from the perspective of me, someone who actually does usually play female characters in games:

"Male gamers often bring up immersion when they give a reason not to play as a female character, but I find this a strange reason. I don't have ANY PROBLEM immersing myself in a game where I'm playing a female character. I mean if my character can shoot fire out of her hands, and is on a quest to save the earth, and we have no problem letting that immerse us and make us "feel like the character", I don't understand how the simple fact that the character is female being a huge problem with immersion. If the game is good enough, I can feel like I'm a dwarf, a wizard, a military commander in space, and I can also feel like I'm a woman. Whats the issue?

Anyway, I'm male and more often than not I choose a female character, but it depends on the game and its content.

Its mostly because the vast majority of action games have male protagonists, so I suppose it's my way of mixing it up a bit. I also really like action-oriented female characters with strong personalities who are in command, don't take any shit, and aren't sex symbols, such as my Femshep in Mass Effect. Not because it turns me on or something, I just think its cool. Some part of me has always appreciated female empowerment I think."

No?

I love playing as a female in games even more so when it gives diffrent options like in FONV you can fuck the guy who tried to kill you and then kill him i laughed my ass off as it.

If somepony has a problam with me being a chick in game you can ever so kindly shut up and deal with it because i wont stop YOU CANT STOP ME FROM BEING MY INNER WOMAN!

Look, women characters are more visually appealing. I do mean it in sexual terms, but also just in general... and thats not a place of sexism, just that with the way things played out a lot of fashion and what not has gone into the female form. Men really don't have that many options in terms of fashion and characterization.

I really don't think theres anything wrong with it. I'm sure girl gamers do the exact same thing for the exact same reasons.

I think I am more aware of it when guys do it, because typically as a female I've got no choice in the matter, so either a male or female character comes relatively natural to me (though I do choose a female when I have the chance). But if a guy is playing a female character, most of the time that had to have been a conscious decision on his part.

No, I don?t always play my gender even when I have the choice. I do find it kind of strange when people play online games as the opposite gender and pretend they really are that gender but then I don?t try and role play with online games.

It's like I care... but in a way where it's barely classified as caring.

I just generally think you're supposed to imprint yourself on the character, so when a guy chooses a female, I become confused.

I play whatever character I feel like playing at the time. There's no real reasoning to it, and I don't think I (or anyone) should be questioned for it. I don't have some crazy "omfg, I need to play a female character when I'm playing a rouge/spellcaster" mindset, I wing it. Every. Single. Time.

Normally the gender is given to the player to create the type of character that would fit the story best. In games where you create your character, I see no reason why not to try to create that part of the story yourself. Playing as men all the time are boring. I enjoy female protagonists in my books and movies, so why should I be questioned if I choose to play as a female in a game? Besides, I don't want to be myself in a video game. I have brown hair. Should all my characters have brown hair? No. Because white/grey is so much cooler.

nope doesn't bug me, as long as they aren't overly flaunting it for attention or as long as they aren't bugging me about their/my choice, then i don't give a shit.

Please add a "It Depends" option.

I only question it if the player is male, they've set the breasts and/or hips to maximum size, and they deliberately choose armor pieces that show as much skin as possible.

Yes, yes another genderish thread,

This spurred from a discussion with a friend, but when you see someone playing a character with a gender opposite to their own do you question them over it?, be it on World of Warcraft, fighting games or whatever other game gives you a choice of male of female character.

Also does it matter to you and do you care if they do or not?

Personally I've never been asked and when asking my friends no one really cared.. So your turn escapist.
I find myself often picking a female character, in Mass Effect one of my favourite game series for example, I chose the Male character, and he seemed like such a fucking meat head, I stopped playing the game 1/3 of the way through the first mission (the worst part of ME1 as well), when I came back, I tried a female character, and somehow it seemed better, it wasn't the childish 12-14yr old, look at her arse thing, that doesn't work too well with the game, but somehow, I enjoyed it more, and played all the way til the... conclusion, of ME3.

Skyrim comes along, chose a female character out of the box this time, played for 45 hours.

I think it might have something to do with customization, personally, I can never get a character to look just like me/ how I want him to, but with a woman, she can be a fantasy thing, lets just make her look good, instead of looking a certain way - if that makes sense.

I don't normally.

When someone plays a character of the opposite gender and goes online and pretends to be of that gender, it bothers me. When someone plays a character of opposite gender for any other reason, I'm fine with it. My uncle just recently pointed out that I happen to play a lot of female characters in games where gender and class are specifically assigned to each-other such as the Siren from Borderlands or Xan Mei of Dead Island fame and it bothered me to no end. Because he was insinuating that I may be gay, not that I have a problem with being gay since I'm bisexual (he doesn't know that) but rather because he thought playing a female character was unacceptable for a male unless otherwise.

I do try and avoid doing stuff like that, although if I'm completely honest I think that I probably do just a little bit subconsciously.
