I play the Bass. I initially had interest in guitars before Guitar Hero game out, and then the interest was further boosted by Guitar Hero, but I could never get ahold of playing a guitar. I ended up getting into bass when my friend needed a bassist for his band, and haven't really looked back since.

Never realy got into guitar hero, always thought it was harder than playing guitar. But yes I play the bass. I'll go back to my coner now and wish for two more strings.....NOT, slap slap pop slap slap pop.
I've seen six-stringed bass guitars. They're expensive as all hell, but they do exist. >_>
Yeh Les Claypool has one but my silly part time wage makes It just a dream. One day though, one day.

i have been playin on and off for about 7 years now..so about 3 years BEFORE Guitar Hero ever came out..currently trying to start up a band..and it's not going too well. but yes. i can actually play guitar. i've had a few lessons here and there, but i can't deal with the technical part of guitar playing. give me tabs and a song and i'll try to learn it..i can play pretty good, just not fast enough for lead, due to the fact that i kinda taught myself in my spare time without doing finger exercises or scales or anything.

so i'm not uber fast, but i'm good. that's all there is to it.

I've been playing the guitar since I was eight years old or so.
Being an (amateur) musician, I really can't bring myself to play any of those music games.
I can play a real guitar....so why bother with the plastic?

Oh god no.
thats why I like Rock Band- because I have no interest in learning to play the guitar, but I still love air-guitar with friends and to songs I love... and this makes it a bit more involved... yet more retarded looking

Been playing guitar for about five years now. I've tried Guitar Hero a few times, I wasn't really too good at it. It's nothing like a real guitar, but I can see the appeal. I started because I was bored as hell in high school, and when I didn't have any classes, I was always welcome to the music classroom, as me and our music teacher got along really well.

Man I miss them days. Now I got da blues.

Bass guitar, for the last couple of years. Just bought one to dick around with, honestly - not because of guitar hero. Haven't played the game once, don't intend to change that.

I certainly know how to play guitar, I just can't. I'm marginally better at bass, but not to the point where I could be in a band. But, for the record, I had my bass and guitar a loooong time before Guitar Hero even existed.

How many people here only play guitar because they were inspired by guitar hero. I mean seriously, I see guys around 15 playing guitars, I know they got lessons. BUT did they get lessons because of guitar hero, or did they always know how to play.
I sort of always wanted to play, had never played guitar hero, saved up money, bought a crappy Fender guitar starter pack at a guitar center after visiting several times and being afraid to talk to anyone because I always imagined that musicians hate new musicians, but most don't. Saved up, bought, played. That was only 3 years ago. Never took lessons. Play decently, but not orgasmically good yet. Yet. One day perhaps.

I can't answer for "them" though.

the teeniest bit if you can believe it, my dad was a musical person and let my listen to a wide variety of old music, so I learned a little guitar then learned some more after I played guitar hero

my real musical passion though is drumming

I played guitar for years before GH and I could play a ton of the 'classics' on real guitar, and I can barely pass them on medium on GH

I played guitar for 3 years before switching to bass. I have always played under the inspiration of metal and hard rock like arch enemy and megadeth, which is why I avoid guitar hero as much as possible. I beleive it influencing people in the wrong ways.

Yes, I REALLY know how to play guitar - to be fair, I did play Guitar Hero before I played real guitar, but I was never under the illusion that they were similar in anyway whatsoever. That being said, it was Nirvana that inspired me to play guitar, more specifically the album "In Utero" - after hearing that, I immediately started taking guitar at high school, and I must say I am a much happier person having done so.

I started to play the guitar when I was 12-13 before Guitar Hero (which I have never really liked or played) and the reason I learnt to play the guitar was because my parents got me Queen's platinum collection and I wanted to learn how to play Bohemian Rhapsody (I learnt how to play it around the end of my first year.) I still play the guitar now, 7-8 years down the line and love every minute of it :D

Now that that's out of the way. Man I am jealous that you've been playing that long. I started when I was 10 but those 3 extra years could have done so much good for me. And as with the guitar hero constituting no musical skill, yes, yes and YES! Glad to see someone seeing it my way.

Mine guitar playing is an interesting tale. I originally started when I was around 12, because my Dad played and it sounded cool. Then I put it down about eight months later after learning only three songs and didn't pick it back up for about three years.

Guitar Hero was one of the things that inspired me to pick it back up, I was playing the game and had an "I could do that" moment. Also the solo at the end of Runnin' Down a Dream by Tom Petty made me want to play as well.

Three years later, and I still haven't learned that blasted solo...

I got a guitar around 11, I'm not sixteen, at first I just played around with it, but I started teaching myself and using websites like ultimate-guitar and stuff to learn diffrent things, about two years ago, another words actually learning it instead of just making noise with it.
I'm pretty damn good at it, I can learn almost any song right now, I didn't start playing guitar hero till about a year ago, so I'd say largely no, I GH didn't inspired me, however I've learned how to play a few songs cuz I heard them on GH or RB and liked them, of course if I hear a song in a movie or on the radio I like, I learn to play it to so yeah.... lol

bottom line, no, but it doesn't hurt to play both.
