I use it frequently. I'm part of a large, loose group of friends that hang out at my college. It's large and loose enough that no one person in the group has the contact info for everyone else, but it's enough of a clique that if you mention "the group" to anyone in it, they'll immediately know who and what you're talking about. We're talking 30+ people here, every one a nerd. We use facebook to keep in touch and coordinate everything from parties to weekly D&D games.

In our case, Facebook isn't so much a seperate world as it is an extension of face to face contact. I don't like the way it handles privacy concerns, but if the site goes too far, the owners will eventually get sued over it, so it's not too big of a deal. I even like the fan pages; you have to be careful which ones you join, but they can be pretty entertaining, much like a forum or a blog.

I, uh, use it but don't like it. Seems your poll doesn't account for people who don't make sense?

Meh, I use it as read-only; lets me know what people are doing.

Yeah, I use Facebook. It gets pretty essential when you move away from your hometown, but I couldn't see myself using it if I saw my friends on a regular basis.

I must say that I'm not particularly fond of it anymore; I migrated over from myspace after it got all ... well, myspace-y. Now it seems Facebook is following suit, with thousands of retarded 'Fan Pages' and groups.

Snooping is in the Facebook Charter.

You know its people like you that make it creepy, right?

I use it, but I don't really like it. I don't really post anything myself, I just keep in touch with people who I like, but can't meet becasue of school/geography. Or I just see what other people are up to. and check the ads to see if there's any cultural event near where I live. (like theater)

I don't like it, but I understand and accept my addiction to it. It's like resigning to your heroin addiction as part of your every-day-life :)

I like using it to keep in touch with people, but I don't really mess with it beyond that.

I use it a fair bit. Handy to use seeing as I can chat to friends using a keyboard, seeing as I hate texting and it's free.

It just makes the world lazier. I hate the fact that now it doesn't even take effort and you are on display for everyone. Your relationship is deliberately updated so all of your friends know, photos are deliberately uploaded so all of your friends see..

It just seems attention seeking and impersonal. Years ago only my close friends and the people I chose to would know about my on doings, these days everyone knows.

And that's why I don't use it. And the fact I'm not allowed to, but that's another story all together.

I use it. I hate the chat program and I really hate their ads. No, I don't want to hook up with singles. No, I don't want a quick date. No, I don't want to... meet up with local cougars?

Pretty simple question here, Tons of my friends use it but I just don't use it.
Sorry, but I cannot vote in your poll.
Use it? Yes.
Like it? No.

It wasn't bad before, but over the past year or two it has gone to hell. Every time they update it, they get rid of useful stuff, break it, or delete half your profile and expect you to replace all your info with "fan pages".

Good lord, the ads. I'm straight, but I have a few gay friends, and I've also joined a couple of gay rights groups, such as "Repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell". This is out of almost 70 friends and close to 300 groups and fan pages. For some reason, Facebook has picked up on this statistically insignificant figure, and decided to send me targeted ads aimed at gay men. WTH?

Damn, i can't use your answers :p

I use it, but only because I don't really have a choice, I'd be much happier if the damn thing didn't exist and people phoned me like in the good ol' days. Hell, i'd settle for an e-mail.

The ads are necessary evil. The owners have to make money so it's personalized advertising for you! Only once has an ad ever peaked my interest (it was for lab equipment :-/ ) and that was because it was totally unexpected, so it doesn't seem to be that effective.

I'm hating the current ads asking me if I want to find my ideal lesbian match...target advertising fail.

Anyways, I like facebook. It's a cheap, easy way to keep in contact with people who live far away and for arranging study times with people.

All social networking is just a popularity contests.
It's only a contest if you enter the competition. Just only add people you know. ^_^

though facebook is annoying. you have to "like" everything. just gay.
I'm gonna go with the gay = Freddie Mercury = Awesome line of thinking there because no intelligent, articulate and well rounded escapist would ever insinuate homosexuality is stupid/bad....

Its a great way to keep in touch with people that you might not normally talk to, or be able to talk to any other way.

I've reconnected with friends from grade school in another state with it.

Don't see why there is any reason to hate on it.

Not using it. I've never really even considered creating an account on facebook, twitter or anything similar.

I hate Facebook because I feel it is a very necessary concept. If you want to do something, say something, etc, with friends then do those things in real life or on an already long-existant social network, the world of cellular phones, rather than start virtual groups that (predominantly) do only virtual things and virtual friends most of which you don't interact with physically.
