I enjoy the occasional anime, like Naruto, and Fullmetal Alchemist, however there are some I love like Lucky Star.
I've read that people in Japan are trying to take the term back and give it a positve connotation.BanicRhys said:You do realise that "otaku" is an insult, right?
Got everything that's been released thus far, but compared to that... how much shit is there in the current set of releases?Kumagawa Misogi said:Go watch Steins Gate.SckizoBoy said:Yes, though mainly an anime fan. Though unfortunately, fewer and fewer series are actually any good these days...
Usagi Drop might be worth checking out.SckizoBoy said:...

Though to be fair, at least some of the current season look halfway decent (or at least intriguing/interesting). Last season was downright crap...
I've got the first few episodes of that though my backlog seems to be mounting... Still haven't finished Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko (weird series...).Imperator_DK said:Usagi Drop might be worth checking out.
It's almost tranquil in pace, and the artwork is fairly primitive, but the story seems worthwhile enough so far, despite slice-of-life generally not being my thing. Although maybe I'm just impressed by the fact that, contrary to one of the more annoying anime staples, it has as a main character a small girl that actually act the part, rather than being some diminutive precocious porn star in disguise.
Well, it's pretty much the same as the term "nerd" in the West.Macgyvercas said:I've read that people in Japan are trying to take the term back and give it a positve connotation.BanicRhys said:You do realise that "otaku" is an insult, right?
So is nerd. but I can't be the only one who calls myself a nerd with pride. Meanings change from place to place, person to person, and over timeBanicRhys said:You do realise that "otaku" is an insult, right?
Yes, I read/watch the odd manga/anime if it's good enough to pique my interests. But it's not like I'm so into it that I'm on the verge of being a weeaboo or anything.
