It kind of bugs me, but then again I'm incredibly fucked up in that department.

Weird fetishes, not getting turned on by porn... I don't really think I represent anyone with my answer.

The only fan service I like is Bandit Keith fan service...in America.

Fan service doesn't bother me unless it's being constantly shoved in my face (I do need to breath after all). Adding sexuality certainly won't make a bad show good but it also doesn't automatically ruin something that is otherwise fun. I think nerds tend to go way too far in their denials of any kind of "perversion." Liking boobs doesn't make you disgusting. It's understandable because they are pretty awesome.

It bugs me when there is so much of it that it starts killing a great series. For example, Rosario + Vampire, the manga is kick ass and awesome, but the anime tries to hard with all the skirt flips and bouncing that eventually get covered up by censors anyways that the story gets morphed into something much less awesome.

What do I think?

I think you should grow up and stop making massively biased polls.

Seriously. Another thing, its because they're animated dude. I mean jeez.

Can't say I care about it all that much, as long as the anime in question is good.
It isn't a deal breaker for me but I won't watch an anime just for the fanservice either.

I like stories most of all. But there is something that bothers me. Sometimes the story is hidden in a pair of breasts. And when I reveal that story. I see that it's not so good as I thought it was.

If people like fanservice or whatever it's called, watch Penguin Girl (or Penguin Musume Heart some places). It's actually so random that you'll sit there asking yourself "WHAT?" all the time. Fellwarden and I laughed our arses off during the first 14 episodes.

OT: It really depends on the anime, if it's fanservice all the time, it may become annoying.

It's not the sight of fanservice that bugs me, so much as the fact that I know I'll be judged as a pervert by anyone who sees me watching anime.

I recently made a thread talking about the new anime Highschool of the dead and to my surprise I had several people say the the huge boobs and random pantie shots known as Fansevice turned them off from the anime. I thought huge bouncing boobies and up skirt panty shots was all guys could ever ask for? Is it because when they finally get what they want they realise they dont truly want it anymore? or are men loosen their balls? What do you think?
Cartoon boobs are kinda odd to some people, I feel like it kinda lessens a story. I'd be less inclined to recommend an anime/manga with fanservice even with an awesome story and such because it's kind of uncomfortable.

Edit: Yep the guy above me said it better.

Depends on how excessive it is. A little is fine. There's a point where it's way to much.

And now I've just become witness to a terrifying video of an alternate universe where womens breasts have developed angry and violent sentient minds of their own and are attempting to pull free from their former masters to take over the world.
Take a look at this! [http://www.cad-comic.com/cad/20061025]

OT: It's alright, when in small doses.

It's not black and white, in some cases it fits and works. But in other cases it's annoying and gets in the way of the plot.

People should understand that fanservice does not equate to comedy (it does only once or twice but it gets old REALLY fast) nor does it give character any depth, a lot of people seem to place ecchi and comedy in the same section and without a doubt their friend the harem genre is also with them most of the time.

In generally fanservice bugs me a lot and I can't handle it in too large a dose because I just fit with rage as to how insulted I feel. Some people like that stuff and some people think "there is nothing wrong with loli," I should personally never want to go down that road but as long as they don't harm others I'm fine with it

Funny enough I tolerate fanservice a lot more in mature titles than I do in shounen ones, that is why I've got a bigger catalog of Seinen Harem than I do of Shounen ones. I think its because Seinen writers take the sexualisation of the characters more seriously and hence it doesn't come of as childish or forced.

Yes shoujo has fanservice too, and probably because I lack balls I like it more.
Still if it's over used it's just as bad as any other wanna be hentai (or yaoi).

I never watch anime, but I'd imagine that it'd irritate the living fuck out of me.

Seriously, if I really felt like watching that, I'd look up porn.

I probably could've worded that better, but oh well. >_>

yes and no, first off let me explain how I rate fanservice in video games by type of fan service

Sexy, I.E. making Samus wear that zero suit: Ok, just don't keep doing it and drawing too much attention or I will say, "Put some clothes on so I can play the game"

Bringing a famous character back or voice actor: Sweet ,its cool, just don't do it too much.

Quoting a famous line: Nice, just don't draw attention to it like Monkey Island 2 did (See Yahtzee's review for more details)

I hate fan service. Cartoons aren't sexy, apparently men can't watch anything anymore without their being a token pair of tits in there (I'm suprised more aren't offended) and it makes me feel inadequate.
yet you use that picture as an avatar?

i saw 1 ep of highschool of the dead too, and yeah it was a bit obvious, but nowhere near as bad as that compilation movie that was posted here wtf

but it's not like hollywood doesnt do it in its movies, not so much pantyshots, but boobs where boobs aren't needed at all
Hahaha! Me and my friends all agree that this is how Megan Fox got put into transformers.
Director "Great, we have all the action and giant robots. Now theres only one thing left to ensure every dude watches this video...BOOBS!*Snap*"
Random boobs were then hired, Aka Megan Fox.
Director "Eh so what if they can't act, we will just throw in a running scene in the second movie..."

In anime's there are some funny fan services, like the Bleach random Beach episode. However some shows do make it annoying, like that video that was posted before where the boobs are literally monsters of their own.

1. It's animated. Animated girls aren't attractive (except to certain people) because they're animated. They're not real. Animated nudity is fine when done in a serious tone (a la Ghost in the Shell), but you won't find many people who actually enjoy it for sexual pleasure.

2. Even if they were real, it's just kind of weird. You act as if every guy is a sex-hungry beast, clamoring for even a single glimpse of a female curve as they continue their daily lives. Sure, there are some guys like that, but how much overlap is there between those people and the anime crowd? Obviously, if we're following stereotypes, the latter is more desperate for some sort of sexual gratification, but I just can't see an otaku sitting at his computer, cracking open a Natty Lite, and cheering at the first sight of some animated boobies.

3. It almost always detracts from the rest of the show/film. I could have gone without the dozens of forced Megan Fox shots in Transformers. It's not because I don't think she's attractive; it's because I wanted to see a movie about robots shooting each other with lasers, not about an uninteresting girl who happens to be standing in provocative poses for half her life.

I like it when its a hot guy :D

Personally I think it can help the story if done right, it makes people more attached to the characters.
