Not if it is done in moderation. For instance, the Hot Springs episode of Outlaw Star was perfect. It was one episode, and it was at the end of the series. It capitalized on viewers having thought, whether consciously or not, "Man, I'd love to see dem bubbies" throughout the whole series.

It depends on how the fanservice is presented......For the most part I dont mind and typically find it hilarious other times though..........

It's about a little taste in fanservice placement. Faye Valentine was fanservice, but that didn't make Cowboy Bebop in any way less awesome.

I don't mind fanservice, as long as it isn't paraded around every second spoiling the important parts (like plot, something that many producers really should be paying more attention to instead of weird boob physics...).

"Fanservice" is one of the reasons I cant stand Anime. The other reasons? Well, there are just to many. Don t get me started.

erm...
/finds that last option mildly offensive.

I'm not a prude, I just don't think there is a reason for pointless fanservice.

Depends on the quantity. Some series are actually decent with just a flash of panty here and there.
Some series try to hide how shitty they are with panties and boobs every 10 seconds (Ikki Tousen, I'm looking at YOU - though I hear the manga's pretty good).

Using sex to sell is one thing, but when sex practically outweighs everything else it's pretty sad.

Just got some more Sakura Mail. That's full of sex, but it's supposed to be, it's seinen. The story's decent and the characters are well-developed, if not always likeable. But how long can you watch something that pretends to be about something else (and worse, asks to be taken seriously) when half the shots are close-ups of boobs and panties? I'll tell you: not very long.

EDIT: Also, you forgot the "sometimes" option, which is why I'm writing it up here. I love boobs as much as the next guy.

If the fanservice is playing up a ship or for comedy I don't mind it that much (The Rosario+Vampire anime comedy with intermittent badass from inner Moka used fanservice for the lulz, and even lampshades it at least twice) Code Geass also did it well, developing various ships and -mostly- threw it in tastefully so that it made sense in context. But if its taking the fanservice seriously (trying to pull in the croud with boobies) then it annoys me more than anything, its an insult to my intelligence! That and most anime fans are at least fairly intelligent, and (in my mind at least) the dregs are the only ones who enjoy 'serious' fanservice outside of Hentai.

Really depends on the show. If the show has lots of sexy sub-plots and such then fine, if they just stick a random boob-shot in right in the middle of something like.... Star Trek, then its pretty silly.
uh, you do realize Trek did that right? Kirk anyone??? (I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic, if you are.. sorry ;))

I think it's unnecessary at the very least, and disruptive to the story at the most. I don't feel that it adds anything to the story unless you're a 15 year old boy.

High school of the dead isnt that bad, heck, I barley even noticed it, as the show itself was entertaining... And the 'fanservice' didnt seem to blatantly defy the laws of physics, and seemed "In place" (As in not thrown in there for the heck of it or whatnot... its kind of hard to describe) unlike that 'reel' posted earlier.

And example of blatant fanservice would be ikki tosen or however its spelled, with unneccecary cutaway shots, or shots from an angle that really have no buisness being there, other than to show fanservice.

Fan service only really works if it's a natural part of the story. Sometimes something can show boobs while staying serious. Anyone ever seen devil hunter yohko? It knew when to do fan service and when to keep things serious, and could even do fan service while keeping it serious (have you seen her transform?). So it really only comes down to if it's used to distract from flaws, the same way some games use pretty graphics and bloom (Halo 2 and 3), others use their franchise title (Halo 2 and 3, GTA IV , Bioshock 2, COD modern warfare 2, star wars games), and some use life simulation elements (Fable 2). Besides, if I want animated boobs, I go for hentai artists.

I recently made a thread talking about the new anime Highschool of the dead and to my surprise I had several people say the the huge boobs and random pantie shots known as Fansevice turned them off from the anime. I thought huge bouncing boobies and up skirt panty shots was all guys could ever ask for? Is it because when they finally get what they want they realise they dont truly want it anymore? or are men loosen their balls? What do you think?
You should wait until the uncensored episodes come out. Then you won't have 3/4th black screens to put up with all the time.

OT: No. It's just more boring to me than anything else though. It's just there in place of good story, and art in most cases when it comes to anime.

I never cared much about fanservice EXCEPT in HOTD where its totally beyond any sense and context.

So... we're complaining because an anime has a certain stylistic emphasis of the female form?

If it didn't have that, wouldn't it just be a cartoon?

Elfen Lied was a terrific anime but the 'fan service' very nearly ruined it. Whilst the nudity at the very beginning wasn't overtly sexual and fit in with the scene itself, later on it became incessant to the point of being ridiculous. We didn't need Nana having her clothes ripped off when she was attacked, we didn't need the frequent bath scenes or any of that other crap.

If it's optional, then I just don't view it. It's pointless.
If it's shoved in my face, then: Yes, it annoys me.

Sex and sexuality isn't that interesting. Just get on with the story, or the game, or the action, or anything else. If I'm interested in sex, I'll talk to my wife. Otherwise: I don't play games for sexual content, I don't watch anime for sexual content, I don't watch TV or movies for sexual content. Especially needless sexual content with no purpose other then to exist. That's stupid.
Worded perfectly.

I think it's absolutely absurd. There's nothing wrong with having a bit of sexuality in the story if it's relevant for the characters and the plot, but most of the time especially in anime it isn't. It seems like a lot of anime just sexualizes every female character for the sake of sex itself. What's most disturbing to me is that it seems to be getting focused at younger and younger women. I used to like anime, and there are still some anime I enjoy watching now and then, but it's really hard for me to take something like that seriously when they're constantly flashing T&A at me every minute or so. It's a mockery of what sexuality is. I prefer real relationships and interaction with real women. Sure they might not have boobs the size of watermelons on an adolescent body, but... wait a second, why the hell does anyone want something that disturbingly unnatural anyway?
