It doesn't effect me at all in a positive or negative fashion.

But I've definitely seen people shy away from games because of gore that I've seen people flock to them because of it.

So I'd say, if anything, intense gore is a bad idea for a game.

I appreciate your opinion, just try not to be so condescending next time :).
No you tried to put a sneaky rant to discredit peoples valid complaints into the simple sounding thread, and every time you try to pull that I will be condescending.
Next time I may even mock, mark my words boy!

I feel the gore is something that sort of helps define Ninja Gaiden so I'm a little disappointed to see it go. So basically, context.

Gore in Pacman? Pointless.
Gore in Dawn of War? Yes please.

I reckon that any game with some form of combat or what-have-you, needs to have a certain level of gore. What it would logically need to be, would be dependent on the game.
Ninja Gaiden, needs gore. Just doesn't feel right without it.

If enemies weren't ripped in half in Darksiders, bleed in Saints Row or explode in Gears of War, the game just wouldn't be as enjoyable...

In my opinion at least.

No. I have played many games that are good and have no gore what so ever.

I personally think a bit of gore to add to the sense of immersion is good but these days where were getting towards photorealism I don't think its wise or needed.

Gore doesn't make a game better.

It doesn't make a game worse either unless its massively overdone/bad.

no, gore dose not a good game make, since there have been alot that try and use gore to cover up for the games deficiency's

now, about these concerns of yours .....

The first time I could view in 3rd person, slow motion the head of a super mutant come straight off in Fallout3 was very rewarding. I suspect it would have been slightly less rewarding had all that gore not been there.

The extra gore if done correctly can work as a punchline or a take that you bastard statement.

As psychotic as it sounds YES! For some genres...

Fighting and shooters i would say. A powerful weapon/ blow should have some sort of feedback.

It can also make bad games good. Such as the recent splatterhouse game.

Mortal Kombat and gears wouldnt be the same without it.

Whats more satisfying? A bit of ragdoll/ canned animation. Or blowing your opponant into a thousand pieces? :)

Sometimes if a game doesn't have gore then it is pretty hard to tell at times whether your attacks are actually being effective... and sometimes it is a bit unnerving shooting and killing people who don't bleed... very odd!

Depends how it's handled and what type of game it is. For example, I liked the gore in Dragon Age: Origins, but then in Dragon Age II I thought the gore was just handled poorly and completely stupid. The way enemies burst into a puddle of blood after hitting them with a strong attack just looked dumb.

But then gore would look kind of silly in say Mario or Sonic. So yeah, depends on the game and how it's handled.

Hmm...good question.

It really all depends on the game. I mean Oddworld might not be as fun if I couldn't possess Sligs and walk them into meat grinders.

I chose "Jemima puddle duck." Why? Because in some games, gore does actually make it good - or at least, better. For me it's not really a yes/no question.

Think of Hammerfight. It's a relatively obscure indie game, but I can say that it feels really good to play. Like, really good. Why? Because the combat is so meaty, due to all the feedback you get - feedback being mostly gore. Some games are improved vastly due to gore, even though it sounds silly.

I like it as long as it's not overdone. I'd like to see more gore in Halo for example but some games focus on nothing but the gore, causing them to become lackluster over time when the lack of effort starts to show through the blood.
