Poll: Does the Escapist need additional forums?

With the resurgence of certain topics in the off-topic area, does the Escapist need new forums to contain them? If so, what forums? If not, why not?

I think putting in new forums for some of the more controversial topics would be good. At least one for current events, and maybe one for pop culture.

Maybe a culture form , like music , movies , art; and a political form . That would probably take most of the load of the off-topic forums .

Off Topic Discussion is for discussion, and for the most part it fulfills its job fine. Don't think that needs changing.

I wouldn't mind seeing a split between Forum Games+RP, simply because of the numbers of Forum Games people make drowning out the significantley fewer roleplays somewhat, but I noticed a number of forum games had been locked recently so perhaps the mods are clearing it up a tad. Other than that, not really. I think it's pretty nice the way it is.

IMHO permitting some of the more controversial threads would start the slippery slope of degradation of the forums. To be sure I sometimes question why a user was put on probation or banned, but to be honest I'd rather they get a few false positives than miss the negatives. This is, after all, a gaming forum, and if you want to put up a pop culture or a current event then stick it in Off-topic (off-topic being, of course, off-gaming-topic).

Seriously, that's just my $0.02AU, YMMV but I am the first (of 4) to vote no, so I'm guessing I'm going to be part of a lonely bunch.

Exactly, too many topics in the off-topic forum and it really needs to be split up.

I'm assuming you're edging towards the idea that the Escapist will turn into 4chan, to which I'd probably agree with you.

4Chan, that's where we will be, I don't think we need anymore forums, though splitting the RP and Forum games section might be a good idea like Amnestic said

I'd really like to see a Gardening forum and a housekeeping forum. Perhaps a forum where we can discuss the finer details of ceiling fans?

No new forum is really necessary. I'm actually still shocked at how well the off topic discussion forum is managed considering the size of the community.

Nothing kills a website faster than dividing up the community into smaller social groups. If it were up to me I'd really only like to see two forums (gaming and off-topic), and a way for users to tack their reviews onto this site's reviews.

Forum games, RP, and controversial topics should be allowed to a certain extent. We shouldn't be starting a new forum every time people decide they don't want to be lumped in with another group of people.

I'm very new here but when i refresh a forum page, all the threads are completely changed and i forget where the hell the last thread i posted in went to. A new forum(s) wouldn't hurt.
