yes we need more forums. thousands upon thousands, with an insatiable bloodlust, to purge this world of its... um... i mean... yeah, more forums are unnessicary. or at least seem that way.

I think just like in Year 11 and 12 English there should be an issues section. This would take all political / religious / controversial and other stuff that just end up in flame wars into one section saving the mods and fellow escapists time and frustration.
Let me ask, how would putting all those topics in one place make moderating easier? Is this sort of an internment camp to keep those topics from mingling with the purer ones? Without invoking Goodwin's law I think you see what I am getting at, right?
Never bothered to read up about Goodwin's Law, though it does seem to be a buzz word recently. I just suggested this because those seem to be where most ban's are and those kid of thread seem more likely to get locked. Looking back over the title of this thread though I must say; no, we do not need additional forums.

If there was a culture forum what would the off topic board be filled with? Posts like "What underwear are you wearing right now?!?"

How about you visit our sister site: The Warcry Network. [http://www.warcry.com/]
Don't do it, it's not worth the shame.
[sup]Not to spread slanderous words about the escapist's sister site or anything, but I'm still feeling the emotional scars from back then[/sup]
*Rubs badges in glee* the dark side just has the coolest bling! Although, it's not my favorite.

ON TOPIC: There's no need to split the forums, by forum-brownian motion, what is boring and unimpressive goes undiscussed. Natural selection, of a kind. More boards only upset things, and they will soon fall for the same traps. Don't over-restrict the forums with more sections, or the Escapist becomes a segregated series of communities, and that breeds discontent.

It ain't broke, and no way of fixin' it makes it better. The risk is not worth the possibility of reward.

I think that if you made a politics forum, a music forum, etc etc, then the discussion would become slower and more diffuse, and lower quality overall.

The Escapist seems pretty devoted to providing quality content, and I feel confident in assuming that they think they have the ideal number of forums currently.

I would say no new forums (particularly for off-topic crap) because doing something like that would minimize and water-down the game-related aspect of the forum.

Definitely that way when people make a music post people won't report you for spamming the forums even though your just trying to talk about music.
People don't report you for making music posts, they report you because your music post say "I like Duran Duran, discuss!" or "Here's a link to youtube, discuss!" See a pattern there?
Wait WHAT , I don't remember saying that .

How about a new forum for non-electronic gaming discussion?
Wha? There was a D&D thread not too long ago. In fact there were two, one in Gaming Discussion and one in Off-Topic. Personally I think Gaming Discussion means everything, from pen-and-paper RPGs to board games to the latest and greatest processor murdering game for the PC. Don't really fault people for posting it in Off-Topic though, it's not the clearest thing in the world I guess. We don't need another forum for it though, I'll say that much.

This is not ENWorld or RPG.net. Forums for every purpose you could possibly have already exist. The Escapist doesn't exist in order to cover everything.
