I do it fairly often when replying to an idiot. Then I realise that said post would get me banned in a heartbeat but just putting it all down on paper (so to speak) seems to get it out of my system.
I do that. I actually have a couple of Notepad documents on my desktop full of replies to idiots and arguments that I've decided not to post.
I can spend quite a while writing a post, then I have my doubts, copy it into a document and think about posting it later, if I have the energy for the confrontation or can be bothered continuing a pointless argument just to be right... but luckily that time never comes and I just let it be.
It is therapeutic to construct the reply and get it written down, but it's also healthier not to post it in the end (and to sleep soundly that night knowing that you didn't just win the theoretical argument, you won the moral one too!).
Hypothetically, if I ever decided to commit Forum Suicide, I'd just create a thread and copy & paste the entire contents of these Black Notepad Documents into the opening post, which would probably send out about 100 new message alerts to quoted people and baffle them with years old arguments & put downs.
