Man I feel like I started a forest fire with this thread. I really was only asking for opinions out of curiosity.

Well, as you may or may have not heard, there are a few Furry escapists that have made themselves quite annoying over it.
People are just a little hypersensitive.

Still, why don't you share with us your personal definition of furry? I thought catgirls fit into the category! Now I'm confuz.

Also, welcome to the Escapist, Buccura!

Yeah, that's why you should talk about furries in a group...but where can I find one of those?

Announcer: HAS THIS EVER HAPPENED TO YOU?

Me: Has what?

Announcer: Well, then you need the Escapist "Furrehs" group

Me: Wait what were we talking about?

I think I've seen this thread before, but on a different forum, but I think it was also by you(or someone with a similar avatar).

I personally have nothing against furries, in fact, as long as they aren't acting like the victims of the internet they can be quite good friends. (speaking of which, you might be getting a friend request)

My personal definition? Well if you want to get detailed about it, I define it as a person who, as means of escapism from reality, imagines themselves as a non-human, anthropomorphic creature, and who finds comfort and centering when they are around others who share this form of escapism, and sometimes even bond over it, while also having great general interest in other anthropomorphic characters because they are not-human and thus, more interesting to them.

My short definition of it though, is a full grown adult make believing they are a cartoon animal character.

Pretty much this.

HOWEVER:

In the pantheon of terrible people on the interwebs:

Pedophiles < Furries < Necrophiliacs < People who talk about babby < Nazis < everyone else
o_o Dude don't you think that's a little extreme? I wouldn't even put Twilight fans in that spot.
I think its a fitting place, I mean look at you, you fit the stereotype verbatim. One of the first things you did on this forum was draw attention to the fact you were a furry with this thread, not to mention your avatar.
*sigh*

He's not drawing attention. In fact he never came out and said he was a furry. Yes it was implied to all hell and it's right to assume but he never went OMG A FURRY THAT'S ME!

and he's actually CRITICIZING the fandom, not putting on a platform and shoving it down your throat.
I'd actually say he's testing the waters to see how the rest of the forum views the fandom, not critcizing it, and no offense to you but any rational wouldn't choose to associate themselves with a group of pedophiles and zoophiles unless they themselves had a problem as well. Seriously how can you turn a blind eye to that and still consider yourself a part of the group?

With you furries its more like everyone who likes naked children on this side of the room, and everyone who doesn't stand on this side of the room. It doesn't matter what side of the room you're on you're still at the same bloody convention.

i think the appeal of furry is that its sorta exotic, and it also brings to mind the animalistic instinct to mate

Know a lot of furries, and don't have a problem with them as a whole. It's another case where the most obvious and outspoken members of a group give the whole group a bad wrap. It's not my thing, but I can't hold it against anyone who's thing it is.

Sidenote: I would like to go to a Furcon dressed as a cartoon caricature of a person, just to see the reaction. Not talking a anime style cosplay, but, rather, the whole shebang complete with a big plastic bobble head.

When did I ever say those kinds of people were okay, let alone should be associated with the group? And last a I heard, a group of furries turned in one of their friends who was fucking animals, and one of the biggest furry porn sites banned lolicon and shotacon, also known as cub, from the site, along with incest. So there's your bloody convention. And not everyone of us goes to conventions, in fact I can't ever see myself daring to walk into one.

It's not that you're offending me, it's the sheer ignorance on the subject you're exhibiting that's angering me. and I'm not even what anyone would consider an active member of the fandom.

*Cough*

Furry is an internet subculture. It's a very large one, admittedly. But it is one none-the-less. There will be those who hate it because they either had a bad experience or are too short-sighted to take the 'to each their own' view, and leave it at that.

Myself, I'm a furry; I'm quite happy to consider myself one, even with all the idiotic filth that makes up most of the fandom.

Also...isn't everyone who posts in a forum wanting to draw attention to themselves and their opinions/words/remarks? Yes, I agree...making an entire thread of 'What is your opinion on furries?' is a little...attention grabbing, but it's the same as 'What is your favorite food?'. It's a vote, born out of curiosity. Take it for what it is, and don't over-analyze it.

If you don't like furries, then put your vote down and be on your way. No one forced you to post a reply or to rage on furries. The OP just wanted a simple vote, not a textual dressing-down because you don't like it.

Also...yiff. I had to say it. (Inside joke, don't look into it.)

Did you mean to say that you feel victimized due to "fursecution"?

So... Yall're pretty much are a bunch of RPers? I don't get it though; why anthropomorphic animals? Does it effect role playing in any way, or is it just kinda like Redwall?

*Snicker* Another lame word the fandom uses, though one of the more hilarious ones. Trust me if Tyger is anything like me, the last thing we would do is go around proclaiming that.

Lol right, you guys are so misunderstood. For a bunch of people who run around the internet (and occasionally real life) pretending to be animals, I'm always amazed by the amount of dignity you guys seem to have when defending it. What you consider to be an "active member" of the fandom and what the majority of your fandom considers to be an "active member" of your fandom are 2 different things, end of thread for me.

Yeah you could call it RPing I suppose. Mind you some would go as far as to say "I AM a Fox in a human body" or whatever.

I'm ashamed to admit though I am not every knowledgeable of Redwall so I couldn't make a comparison.

I attended a fur con once because it was local, my costuming friends (furry and otherwise) would be hanging out there, and I wanted to experience a con that didn't involve anime, comic books, sci-fi, or marketing for a change.

I will say that I liked how the furries had personality when encountering children akin to theme park mascots and held an educational panel to method acting that I found useful in my cosplaying.

I have helped a furry friend as a handler once by clearing obstructions and providing water. I just treated it the same when handling my friends who dressed as giant Transformers characters. Not as furry, but just as cumbersome.

Well no, but some of them have relations with teddy bears if that helps you.
