I'm 31 and have been playing video games since I was 4. It's a great way to waste time and relax, I've always thought so and this shall continue. This is just another example of people who are out of touch with contemporary society. As others have mentioned, these people are incapable of grasping the notion that we also do other things, like reading and watching films. It probably would shock them to discover that some of us are married and have jobs.

Hey guys... Imagine this.

A hardcore gamer in the day was playing Megaman games so many times that you no longer complained about how some of them were hard.

Now a days, someone's mom plays Farmville everyday religiously without fail.

Who is hardcore now?

But no, seriously... are you saying people playing "casual" games on a PC- who number well over the millions- are weird?

Way to go.

what is your opinion on this ?
I'm 37, I play games and I'm weird. If the shoe fits...
Yeah but you work in the music industry so you'd be weird whether you gamed or not.

I sure as fuck know I'm weird - I got into Art school and being weird is one of the entry requirements.

It's a cognitive disconnection. They can't relate what they think of as 'gaming' with whatever little causal timesinks they play with. 'Course a lot of gamers suffer from that same disconnection, they just use it as the basis for other biases.

First thought: ... Someone get me my pimp cane.

Second thought: Well excuse me for being old enough to remember Mr. Game and Watch.

I wish there were more gamers over 30. Everything about gaming would be more mature if the majority of gamers were older. The market, the "culture", the community. It would be brilliant.

Me at 14: Playing video games (coin-op, Apple II and TRS-80), regarded weird by peers. Regarded weird by normative TV shows.

Me at 41: Playing video games (PC, Android), Envied as high-tech and cool by peers. Regarded weird by normative TV shows.

Meh.

You don't get too old for music, films, books or any other form of entertainment. Just shows the perpetuating belief that games are for kids.
Seriously. Can't phrase it better than this.

Can you get to old for board games? They're still games. No, you don't. No matter what form of entertainment it is... people relax in different ways.

Such as? I'm fairly certain that human beings need to focus their mind and attention on certain things purely for entertainments sake every once in a while. Imagine a life where you could do nothing fun. Fucking terrifying.
Such as TV shows. And which Kardashian is dating whom. Duh.

I simply ignore these people who think video games are for a specific age range. Clearly they don't recall the fact that the NES came out back in 1985 and kids from that decade have grown up. Nonsense.

Just over the hill fossils talking out their asses about an issue they know nothing about in an attempt to stay relevant.

Nothing to see here.

Damn. So if I do what they want, i'll have to stop playing games next year?

And then i'll have to start getting botox and plastic surgery? And buy a 4WD for driving around the city? And put on 20kg's?

Man, it must suck to turn 30.

Any game has the potential to be weird. Or any person in general. No-matter what age.

Though, when I was a hardcore WoW player there were some odd 30+ guys in the guild who were obnoxious and weird. But then at the same time there were more people my age that were weird. (I'm 18).

So they asked a couple of Malibu Cougars who are probably scheduled for the 10th visit with a nip tuck doctor this year, and a closet case homo in his 60s that looks like the gay Hugh Heffner?

Am I suppose to feel insulted that I'm a 30something gamer?

lol

Yes - 3% (27)
No ------------------------------------- 93.9% (833)
??? - 3% (27)
The poll looks like a penis hurr hurr.

I hate threads like these. They're just designed to make people rage so the OP can get a nice, shiny "hot thread" badge, or whatever.

Is watching movies when you're over thirty "weird"? No. It's just because the old people in that video grew up during a time when video games actually were for kids. I don't even blame them. It's like misogyny or racism in the 40's. It was a different time.

I know a woman in her late 60s whose favorite hobby is riding her shiny red Harley-Davison all over the US and Canada with Sturgis, S.D. being a preferred stop every August. Since she's very religious, she doesn't smoke, drink, or swear, but she does do the whole black leather thing. She's also a nurse and very mindful of personal safety, so a bright white helmet completes the picture.

Gamers over 30 are weird? Pffffft.
