I'm still going strong with my trusty ol' MX518. I'll be sad when I finally have to replace it.
Same here. It's been a trusty companion of mine.

I came here expecting a thread about mouse based gaming science experiments.

I was sadly mistaken.

there is just no comparing any of the rest with Logitech's products.
I'd put a lot of Saitek gear equal to Logitech... unfortunately for me, Saitek is a pain in the arse to find where I live.
Hence the Saitek X52 joystick I use (and put a picture of). Saitek can't compete on the mice/keyboard/headset side, though.
I like the Cyborg R.A.T series mice.

I have a Cyborg RAT3 mouse. I bought it because it's one of the few mice I've ever used that doesn't make my freakishly small hands cramp on extended use.

All my peripherals besides my headphones and joystick (which is also a Saitek X52, but not the pro one like yours) are Logitech. They make good stuff for a good price.

My mouse is a Logitech G300.

I have it programmed, but not as much for games. The G8 button I have set to change modes between "Gaming" (which is a high DPI and a blue light), "Standard" (which has an average DPI and the buttons are mapped for forwards/backwards in a browser, and copy/cut/paste, and has a white light), and "No Light" (same as standard, but the light is off if I want to leave my PC on at night).

I program my macros and keybindings onto my Logitech G13 gameboard for gaming. The cool thing is that both the mouse and gameboard are managed by the same software.

G400 is amazing. I like the minimalist design compared to other gaming mouses. And, its relatively cheap.

Do you have a gaming mouse on your PC? If so, have you programmed it at all?

I've got a Coolermaster Sentinal. So far, I make pretty colors with it, but that's about it.

I'm looking forward to programming the buttons for some of my favorite games (You would not believe the button combos necessary in Alice, Madness Returns, that could be done away with one good macro. But it all seems so blooody exhausting!

Does anyone really do this? Is it as daunting as I fear?

I recently tried to switch to a Diablo 3 mouse because the clickers on the Ikari sometimes doubleclick when attempting single clicks. I had to stop using it from wrist + hand pain after a day. I play a LOT, and the ergonomics of ambidextrous mice just aren't good enough. Luckily I was able to return it cos it kept fucking up my USB interface somehow.

TL;DR - I love this mouse because its ergonomics relieve a lot of the stress and strain on my hand.
I'm thinking a lot of these have similarities:

I got like £200 worth of Razer peripherals for my Birthday, I use the Razer Lycosa Keyboard, and The Razer Imperator Mouse. The Mouse has Two Extra buttons on the side, and a couple on the top, which I leave set for adjusting sensitivity (I generally play on quite a low sensitivy, 1700 DPI, it goes all the way up to 6400) The keyboard doesn't have extra buttons, but it can also have macros, I haven't really used them all that much though, I bound the extra mouse buttons to a couple of skills in Diablo 3, but that's about it.

SteelSeries Cataclysm Mouse.
Could not live without its half million buttons.
I actually don't even use my Keyboard at all for Diablo 3, I have every single command bound to the mouse.
I made FF14 half playable with macros, binding all of their psychotic commands to more easily accessible mouse buttons for easy cancel, confirm, menu, etc.

I'm not sure if it really counts as programming though, the configuration program makes it stupid simple keybinding.

Since I have anger issues... I tend to not keep anything smashable by my desk. I couldn't tell you how many mice, keyboards, and headsets I've gone through due to getting pissed off at something. Usually MW2 Multiplayer, and WoW leveling on a PvP server... both which I no longer play so...

Also, I've never really seen the point in a gaming mouse. The standard $5 one I have now works just fine.

And for a side note, my friend wanted me to get some like $100 gaming mouse, and when I told him about my anger issues he suggested I just get a large bucket of crappy mice to throw when I get pissed. Still not going to happen.

I use a standard $20 Microsoft optical mouse, and have for almost a decade now. They're comfortable and extremely durable. Personally I don't see the point of extra mouse buttons, I'd rather use keyboard bindings.

I just have a standard mouse, seems to do the job for me. But will eventually replace, just got into PC gaming properly in the last few months see.

Any recommendations for one? Budget is about 60 US dollars.

Er, why? That one looks awful.
I'm seeing a lot with an indent for the thumb (for righties like me anyway), buttons just above, and two just underneath a wheel that can be depressed and a couple more rocker type buttons above the thumb.

EDIT: The D3 does look different than the others, thank you for the picture!

Bit off topic, but the best deals I've been getting are from Steam. Watch for their sales. You do need to be online, and you have to worry: if these people ever go under, all your games become hard drive clutter. Unlikely, I think they are on top.

Example of a value: I got fantastic game, Fallout 3 New Vegas with 4 expansions: total $9.99. I can play, one at a time, any computer I log into on steam as long as I have that game loaded.

Batman Arkham City with a great graphics card is just about the best anywhere, ever.

Some are writing that Skyrim is not a game. It is a way of life. I think it very pretty.

If you look at my profile, I have a Steam account xD But thanks for the info none the less, one thing I will tell you, I read somewhere that if Valve/Steam ever went under, they would send out a patch for each game apparently that would stop the drm or something.

I've bought games on special with them when I didn't have a PC to play them on, because I knew one day I would.

*Sees a thread with people claiming that you need a £50 mouse to be able to have a good gaming experience.
*Starts to wonder....

Nah, I'm kidding. But I do think that it's a case of diminishing returns with these mice. For £5, you get a fully functional mouse. You certainly don't get 10X of the experience of a cheap optical one.
I do like the extra comfort from a slightly more expensive mouse, but unless I really program this:
1) Alice, Madness Returns is likely unplayable
2) for the extra cash, all I can really do is make my mouse change colors! Really cool, but silly!

Glad to read you're getting into PC gaming (though I still love my consoles.) Interesting news about Steam, very good to know. I spent about $50 on $300 in games on the Summer sale that I'd hate to lose. Hope you got some great sales too. There was an entire thread devoted to them.

I have a 9 button cooler master inferno. I have programmed the shit out of it. I have different accounts on the mouse for different games so I can switch between different button configurations really easily. I have 5 different DPI settings for when I'm using different weapons or characters in those games, and I have a macro programmed to my house which makes rocket jumping incredibly easy in TF2.

It's AWESOME and not at all difficult to do with the software that's included.
