Somehow the country you live in suddenly became a facist regime. Conscripted into the army, you fight with an NCO's gun trained on you the whole time. Eventually enemy POW's are captured and brought to your HQ. Until now you've conducted a clean war, only killing those trying to kill you. Now, after some selection, *insert minority here* men and women are lined against a wall. You are on the firing squad.

These are not spies, these are not serial murderers. These are ordinary people who resisted instead of surrendering to your army. You beseech your superior officer to stop this but he merely grunts "get used to it, soon we won't even need to use bullets". You have always hated violence and now you are about to fire at a 16 year old boy who was helping his father reload when they got captured.

Do you shoot the innocents? Do you try to shoot your way out of the compound?

Keep in mind you are in the middle of army headquarters, surrounded by hundreds of troops. Escape is impossible unless you are Chuck Norris. Also remembering that if you do pull the trigger, you can never take it back. You've become a part of the slaughter operation and will be tried if your nation falls after NATO intervenes.

Your turn. How many of you would choose survival over morality?

What would I do? I guess I'm a noble kind of guy because I would drop the weapon and line up beside them.

EDIT: The Escapist ate my poll. Sorry guys.

EDIT 2: Every solider has his target. If he misses, the commanding officer walks over and watches you fire a second time. Miss the second time, you are dead.

I would point to aspergers that kept me out of the army during the first round of conscription and say that I wouldn't be an effective soldier if executions were included in my work schedule.

Then I'd continue working on getting to Sweden

Faced with the choice between anything and death as of yet, I will always choose my survival. Maybe if one day I have kids the protective instinct will be strong enough to override that, but my existence is by far the most important thing to me right now. If I am not here to experience and perceive things, they mean absolutely nothing to me.

I generally think logically and realistically about the world. Especially since the people are going to die either way, me tossing a couple extra bullets their way doesn't actually change anything except keeping my own death out of that count.

hmm.. tricky one.. i would probably aim my gun at the innocent people, but miss on purpose when they fired.. Then to later escape when possible and start up a resistance organisation trying to catch the people responsible for such heinous crimes..

I am not sure, as I am not in the situation. Though I would like to believe that I would not shoot them.

These executions weren't on the original work schedule. It came out of the blue while you were fighting in the field. And the army is enlisting everyone, no exceptions, as they are waging war on... Well, the world.

Shot the wall, keep my mouth shut and, assuming I live long enough to die of old age, give a teary apology about the evils of my life.

Sure, they'll kill me if I don't kill the people lined up but they couldn't kill me if I was just a notoriously bad shot (not in theory anyway). Since I'm in the U.S, I'm guessing if I do shot the wall enough times I'll be killed by secret police long before they consider sticking me into a kitchen.

i have always thought that if i were drafted i would kill myself, because id rather die than fight for a system i oppose. so i guess in this scenario, i would shoot the commanding officer, knowing it would result in either my immediate death, or torture followed by death. and i would just hope that the officer would be replaced by someone far more reasonable than he was

Well well well, forced into the army, during training if I left I'd be killed and since its a fascist regime they would kill/torture my family if I did disobey?

No matter what I have to pull that trigger and you know what I'll work for that promotion while my family leaves and I'll work on finding individuals like me. What little I have access to will make it rough for my country, any person with evidence of my deeds to disrupt unjust killings will die in a swamp and if I can get to any person of value to kill then by god I will. Stage a coup if I have enough people and firepower otherwise try to leave.

It's good to keep your enemies as close as you can and then stab, repeatedly.

Hmm. Shoot the prisoners of war and live for a little longer only to inevitably die anyway (come on, how many 15 year olds do you see surviving wars?) or die right there and then? If I didn't shoot them, then someone else would, and I'd die. But I wouldn't have to live with it, and I wouldn't have to endure the goddamn war any more. I guess I'd prefer to die with a clear conscience, rather than get shot later on for something else.

Umh, the whole assumption is wrong because if my country would ever change into fascist regime i'd be first to join the guerilla forces rebelling against the government. I would not be conscripted, i'd most likely die before that.

Eventually i'd just ask for political asylum in Australlia or Canada, it's far away enough to keep me safe from all such crap.

Shoot the innocents. Getting myself killed for disobeying orders isn't going to help anyone, and the innocents will still die. Shoot them, and then when an opportunity presents itself, desert and attempt to contact the rebellion. For as we know, there is always some sort of rebellion against these regimes, even if it's doomed to failure. Failing that, I'd just try and get out of the country.

Whats the minority?

if its anything religion-based I'll ask for a chaingun instead. as a massive middle finger to their beliefs.
