I would deliberately but inconspicuously leave the safety on. Hopefully I'll only get beaten and abused for incompetence, and not killed for insubordination.

i would of advanced in the ranks high enough that i wouldn't be the one doing the killing, i would be the one ordering it, getting my hands dirty was never really my thing.

But in the event that i would be forced upon the gun, to slay innocents, i would probably just suck so much at aiming that my bullets would some how end up buried in the floor 2 feet away from where i stand. i would blame this on anxiety.

I would shoot the innocents and despite what the rest of you think im sure most of you would shoot aswell, ideals tend to disapear in such a situation..

There is a similiar situation in one of my history books, though its an American executing a kid because he supported the japanese and releasing him would put the Unit at risk.

These executions weren't on the original work schedule. It came out of the blue while you were fighting in the field. And the army is enlisting everyone, no exceptions, as they are waging war on... Well, the world.
We didn't last more than 4 hours against the Germans in WW2, and we spend less now, plus war has gotten faster.

I'd shoot the whacky officer and go out for a beer with the others while the Germans put down whatever crazy shit the national populists had been up to.

Hooray for living in Denmark.

I would deliberately miss.

If this were for some reason impossible (for instance, if I was the only person shooting), then I would kill the people.

Yeah, I know. It's horrible. And I would feel like shit about it afterwards. But they're going to die either way and I rather like being alive. Peace of mind isn't going to do me any good if I'm dead.

Shoot the highest ranking officer in sight, and hope that some of my fellow soldiers felt the same way about the situation.

I'd definitely kill the innocents. I would do anything to avoid death.

Essentially...

I probably would shoot adults for my own survival, but I couldn't shoot children, I would have stepped over a line in my mind then that would be against my deepest beliefs. Death would be preferable.

I always hated violence? It went from "You are here" to "put yourself in someone else's shoes."

Oh well. I'd still shoot them. Living is fun. And they're gonna die very soon either way, what's it to the Ncom if an insubordinate dies along with them?

Actually, I daresay I might be the Ncom...

I'd kill them, but rather so they meet a swift death than have to await their end at the hands of another man should I decide to pull any heroics and be made into swiss cheese.

No, I leave the latter to those of us whom managed to escape early on and formed a resistance movement. If they succeed in their rebellion
i'll simply lay down arms and surrender, if not then well.. i'll still be alive to await the next batch of would-be heroes to fight this regime.

Then I'd continue working on getting to Sweden
Let's see.... if SWEDEN became a fascist country, lol, I would hopefully not end up as a common soldier. If I did, I think my tiny patriotism, but mostly my association to my friends (who would also be conscripted) would make me pull the trigger.
And if Sweden ever gets beaten, we'll just hide in our forests.

Faced with the choice between anything and death as of yet, I will always choose my survival. Maybe if one day I have kids the protective instinct will be strong enough to override that, but my existence is by far the most important thing to me right now. If I am not here to experience and perceive things, they mean absolutely nothing to me.

I generally think logically and realistically about the world. Especially since the people are going to die either way, me tossing a couple extra bullets their way doesn't actually change anything except keeping my own death out of that count.
^This.

Life is a pre-requisite for everything and nothing is worth dying over.

I would follow orders.
They would die no matter who pulls the trigger, there is no heroics in not shooting, there is foolishness and cowardice.

You don't have to like killing people to do it. When the choices are "1 death or 2?" you follow orders. If you are out alone and have the opportunity to save lives then do so. Take as few shots as you can when not under supervision, try your hardest to inconspicuously miss when they will get away for it.

But insubordination to watch the little boy die by another hand is silly. The most you could offer him is remorse and to carry on his memory as an unnecessary death.

If you really can't handle the weight on your shoulders knowing it was out of your hands, then therapy, antidepressants, at worst suicide brings you back to par. 2 deaths because you couldn't handle 1.

This is conceited for me to be writing, don't think I don't realize this, I've never killed anyone, I don't plan to in my life time. I've never held a gun, there is definitely a chance I'd freeze up in reality, definitely a chance that if I did I'd be on the list of those who couldn't take it.
But as hypothetically as the question comes, that's what I believe is the best choice.

Assuming it wasn't the first example of eugenics that I had heard of I'd fake being injured in a hostile contact with an enemy patrol ... me and a friend would shoot each with common firearm types that are used by the enemy and a family member to pick up the weapon and hide it away before medical staff picked us up.
