I know, I know, fascist regimes generally aren't a good thing. Free thinking is generally suppressed, those in power generally become corrupt, those not in power are persecuted, the current regime stays in power through force of arms, propoganda is everywhere, the list goes on and on. I'm just pointing out that our knee-jerk reaction (well most of our's anyway) to fascism is "Not democracy! It is bad!"
Democracy is bad too, but it's the lesser evil(and thus we should all vote for Cthulhu!). Generally it comes from the fact that no regime so far proved to be actually good. You can argue about China which is obviously a major power in the global politics but it's hardly thanks to the fact that people there enjoy being ordered around in so many aspects of their lives.

And uh, for about 10 years i had the pleasure of living under the socialist regime, despite the comedy value it wasn't puppies and rainbows so i kind of have some sort of point of reference on those things.
I'm just mainly annoyed at knee-jerk reactions like the example I gave. I don't care if someone doesn't like a particular government type (or religion or philosophy or whatever) so long as they made the decision themselves rather than just being told "This is bad, you should not like it." There are people like you who can actually appreciate the good parts of democracy, since you've lived under a government that wasn't a republic, and then there are people who like democracy because they were told its the best thing since sliced bread all their life and that's all they've ever known.

The fact that all governments have their flaws makes me want to give up on politics sometimes, but I always come back cus there is always something I feel could be improved reasonably. I'm partial to more centralized regimes, so I'm not necessarily against authoritarianism.

I guess the best government would have to be a fluid type which can go from democracy to dictatorship and back again when needed. Of course someone would abuse power somewhere along the way though and screw it all up. Stupid human corruptability...

hmm.. tricky one.. i would probably aim my gun at the innocent people, but miss on purpose when they fired.. Then to later escape when possible and start up a resistance organisation trying to catch the people responsible for such heinous crimes..
And I'll make the movie =D

Come to think of it.. That does sound like an awesome movie!
You sir, have yourself a deal!

The Tarkin Doctrine works wonderfully over the short term, but it tends to create a passionate resistance with nothing to lose. I'd like to say that I would climb the ranks in this regime, becoming the Rommel-like noble officer, but I'd probably just shoot my CO in the face, hoping to spark a rebellion.

I would shoot: But deliberatly miss. Hopefully, someone else will hit the person i am aiming at.

Then, later that night, i would attempt to desert.
If i fail, ill be executed. If i succeed, i run away..

Its that, or i shoot and kill an innocent, and then are either Killed in the war or executed.
Either way, i die, or have a tiny chance of escaping.

By that point I'd have already joined the resistance anyway. And I'm actually being completely serious here. At my university I regularly hang out with people who are parts of various campaign groups (usually stuff like feminist groups or climate change groups and stuff like that), so I'd already have links to any potential rebels when the fascist regime started. I have some degree of stealth skills, and can blag with the best of them, and am usually easily left out of things because I'm somewhat good at blending into the background. So I wouldn't be a bad rebel spy. And I have some weapons training too, and I'm not a bad shot, so I could hold my own in a fight.

So yeah, I'd have joined the resistance as soon as I could. If I was in that situation, however, I'd probably fight my way out IF it was possible for me to do so, and go on the run. If I would be more likely to die, then I'd kill the people, and maintain my position. I can do more damage to the regime from the inside, after all, if I make it look as if I'm loyal to the fascist cause and rise through the ranks without them suspecting I'm a traitor...

I think the better question is... if you're a pacifist and object to violence... Why the hell did you join the MILITARY?

OT: As much as leaders can't be trusted, I have to assume that there are reasons these people deserve execution that they aren't telling me. Before the execution, I'd try to learn as much as I can about the circumstances and make a more educated decision. If I did decide these people should be saved, I'd set up a camera just in case the "gun to your head" is not a bluff (which more than likely it is, you don't get a leadership position in the military by assassinating your own men) and make sure the officer paid for murdering me.

I'll break ten legs before they take me into army. If still into army, then a few heads to be a tech guy. If still failed, then genocide.

if I ever got in that situation I would shoot them.
because I'd rather have a bad conscious in my head, than a fascist army on my ass.

Kill them.

Hell, given the choice of some sort of benefit from shooting them,
(Besides living. Say, increased pay roll) or not shooting them
and not being punished besides not getting said fatter pay check,
I'd still shoot them. Twice, just to make sure I did my job.

Whether I think it is wrong or not doesn't matter.
What matters is that it doesn't matter what I choose,
they will die. Might as well get something out of it myself.

Besides, my country, right or wrong.

I'd probably shoot myself. Depending on how enraged or broken I am by what's going on around me, I might try an assassination attempt on the commanding officer, but it's unlikely.

I'd rather die than shoot a kid. I'd try to shoot my way out of the compound, no question. I don't even need to think about it. Even though I'd be killed almost immediately I'd die knowing I stood by my morals.

If it is me or them I choose me, because I really don't have free will to choose.

If I think about it, they are going to die anyway, regardless if I fire or not. Someone else will just kill them. Also, shooting at someone and missing on purpose is a form of torture, they hear shots and their friends/family falling down dead but they still stand? It is worse than getting shot. All I can say is that I would aim for the head and do my best to make it quich and painless. I agree with other people saying that they would start a resistance, as I most likely would but I can't exactly do that half way through this scenario, I would see it to the end and then hope I can redeem myself later (although I know this won't be possible).

I'd kill them. When appealing to NATO, I could claim that I was forced to do it and regret my actions, which I probably would have.

I have qualms with overpopulation anyway.
