Selvec - you do know many men dislike beards? And I'm not talk about homosexuals, straight may not like them too.

I say - goatees and chin straps ftw. If I wanted to, I would grow sideburns, but I would look a bit... wild.

I mean, I have long hair (not like a fan of metal, but still), I have a big face (not fat, I'm just big) and I'm only 17. Smaller beards are okay in this age, but full beard would be too much.

I had a goatee a while ago, and I got a bit of female admiration. It was only a bit, but better than nothing. I ended up shaving it off, because I didnt have a trimming razor and trimming a beard with a full size razor is difficult, I find. Aswell, one of my female friends went ballistic when I shaved it off, saying she'd never get used to my bar chin again.

It depends on the shape of your face. I look about fifteen clean-shaven, twenty with sideburns and twenty-five completely unshaven (I am twenty-one). Some people look their age when clean-shaven and have the right features to pull it off; I definitely don't.
Same here I'm 18 and with my beard and I look 20.
I was 15 when I had my beard and it made me look like I was around my mid-twenties. However, I look around 16-17 with my sideburns.
Yep, I've been there.

In middle school, my beard started growing. I had to shave it, and I had... well, a bit of attention from females, but nothing special.

Now in high school I have a goatee and well... Maybe girls are crazy, but they like it. I met only one girl that said she didn't like beards, but then she noticed I have one and quickly said "of course, I have nothing about shorter beards".

I actually love that just slightly grown out 5 O'clock shadow. Where its kind of rough but not like stubble. I love it when then boyfriend shaves because I know the next day it will be perfect. And during all that day I rub my face, hands and every body part I can on his face.

But that's just me.

I've had a beard for two years, and I'm never shaving it off. My mates wouldn't acknowledge my presence and all the girls would turn away in disappointment if I shaved it. However since purchasing my black rimmed glasses I now look exactly like Gordon Freeman, read goatee and all. Even my friend that aren't gamers see the resemblance; "Hey!! You look like that computer game character!". I am Gordon's Cake loving brother.

In fact last year I shave it off for charity, Movember [http://www.movember.com/]. I walked into my tute at university, no one recognised me for the first five minutes of the lecture.

I got a goatee.

Basically I look about 12 without it (I'm 19) or 29-something with it. So it stays, even if my mates to rib me about it on occasion. I guess it helps I've got shoulder-length hair (well, slightly longer) and sideburns too. Rest of the face is clean-shaven (otherwise I get too hot at work and it gets itchy).

Really want to grow it quite long, and fork it "metal style" - but since I gotta keep my hair short for work it's not likely to happen anytime soon, so I just keep the goatee trimmed short-ish (otherwise it gets scraggly and just looks like someone glued pubes onto your chin). Fantastic for "scientific thinking" ;)

Well, I'm 17 and I can't really grow a *real* beard yet, it doesn't matter though.

I'm told I look somewhere around 20 without any facial hair, I guess I just have AWESOME facial features :)
I had sideburns going, but I didn't like 'em myself, so they got shaved off.

Oh - And I didn't vote, since I'd rather not make this poll any more obsolete than it already is.

I have a beard, it may be to compensate for my lack of head hair. Here I am [http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/Gorzakk/Mikecornflakes.jpg] eating some cornflakes while knackered. Also beards keep your face a lot warmer.

I hate beards but stubble or a soul patch can look really good. Although I've heard having stubble is incredibly uncomfortable...

Oh yes and the 'Freeman Style' beard is good too...

I want to say something else but I'm afraid I'll lose the favour of a certain crab-obsessed Ninja...

Beards are good, just wait till you're past adolescence before trying to grow one or you end up with a patchy mess that takes ages to grow and makes you look like you're an alcoholic and homeless...

I am 22 years old, but I can't grow a beard.

No, it's not because I can't grow the hair, quite the contrary, but the problem is..
Some of the hair (right around my chin) is already Silver/Grey!

Yah.. you know how your fathers always blamed you on their Grey hair??? Well.. I blame school, work, and my psycho ex!

So yah... until I am 'old' enough to have a salt and pepper beard, it'll have to stay clean shaven.. *Cry*

I have a winter tradition where I grow a beard starting on first snowfall, and shave it into a funny mustache for christmas and new years. While I think I look good with a beard, I am told by my girlfriend that it makes me look older, and that I look better clean shaven. I think I am just partial to growing a beard because it is far less work on my part for morning clean up time.

I forfeited my right to a beard when I joined the Air Force ROTC. Though I have been considering growing a 'stache.

I have a beard. I can say a few things:

1. Don't go too long and become unapproachable (hobo).
2. Don't go too short and become uncomfortable for yourself or lady (scratchy).
3. Experiment a little. Full beard? Something to highlight your facial features?

I recommend highlighting your lips if you intend to date more.

There are dyes.

If I go back to school full time I may try a crazy color just for kicks. If I don't like it I can always shave it off.

I don't like having a moustache, don't appeal to me, but a short beard is nice, not too shot and definitely not too long...

I had one, I shaved it. My girlfriend prefers something being there, but she hates me with a full beard.

So it's like, I have to keep it relatively short? She likes it when it's growing it but hate it being there.

I used to have the most brilliant soul patch and chin beard, but it got to a point where it got too long and looked weird. So rather than keep trimming it I just shave it all off now as it's much less hassle.

A beard is a man's romance. We can grow it, we can trim it. It's like a pet, that grows on our face! You wouldn't shave your pet bald, now would you? That would be horrible.

My point being: A beard is a godly thing, you must take care of it, not get rid of it. POWER TO THE BEARD!!
