its just a mechanic they didn't include in hl2, seems almost like we're watching him accomplish it all from a helmet cam, if he talked we would most likely have to decide what he says thus changing some of the games feel

Yes. We do. Of course.

But Gordon needs to talk just about as much as link does. And that's not much.
That was the exact same example I was going to use.
"Does Link need to speak?"
No. He's a badass - he doesn't need words.
Link? Badass? Have we been playing the same Zelda series, or was Zelda: Link Snorts Cocaine and has Rapant Sex already released?

More on topic, no. Gordon should never, ever speak. It lets the mind wonder more.

He needs to go away. If he made a nice little speech before going away forever that would be OK.

I want him to say one word at the end of the last game. I want them to have beaten whoever the final boss is, and someone like Alec is leaving, and she says something like "Gordon, are you coming?" and he says "Sure" and walks off with her. I think it would be great.

Does Samus talk, does Link, do a lot of old school RPG protagonists speak? No, silence is golden. These days if you're talking it often makes you wish they would shut up. Plus it saves devs money for voice actors, except the hiya and oof you sometimes get from Link and Samus.

No. I am pretty sure that Gorden not speaking was a design choice by valve. It allows the character to RP in a genre that is not usually open to RP. So i voted no.

I bet that at the end of Episode 3, we will see him in 3rd person and he'[ll look completely different. That would be a huge omgwtf moment.

he's gotten htis far wihtout talking, plus, Half-Life was one of the first good games to employ the "Silent Protagonist" character, which you can relate to, so i would rather he didn't speak.

Neither of those things are badass. Clearly you do not see murdering hundreds, if not thousands, of monsters and saving the world without saying more than "yes," "no," or "grunting noises" badass, and for that I pity you.
Those things aren't badass, but neither is grunting in a high pitched voice every time you swing your sword.

Also, wearing a sleeping cap outside. Whats up with that?

nope. it would ruin the game completely. as if half-life needs MORE scientist geeks yammering on about flux capacitors and gamma-ray cascades and what-not.
