Topic done to death, rezzed and killed again.

I'll say what I always say: You can take any gender to play as and someone will still find a way to insult you for it.

As a guy:
-You play a girl. Get a lot of stick (hence this thread)
-You play a guy. ("LOL UR GHEY YOU STARE AT A MAN WHILE U PLAY LOL")

The possiblities are endless.?

Be honest. Has anybody actually done that to you?

I play a gal, occasionally... My main in EVE Online is female, no real explanation to why I made her female, I just felt like it. However, my first char in Fallout 3 was male, so was my Oblivion character, and my Star Wars Galaxies character, back in the days... So I supose it depends on the moment.

It all depends, really

I don't play online, so if that's the root of the question then I'm sorry

But in a game like Mass Effect I tend to have both male and Female characters

I've noticed that if there are guys playing as girl characters, it is usually for one of three reasons.
1) They want to mooch off of the guy populace that want to supply the "girl" with stuff to make "her" life easier and to steal the one "girl" off the internet from the other female-starved men of the gaming nation.
2) They don't want to stare at a man's derriere for the entire duration of their play-time.
3) Sometimes playing a girl character is more fun (i.e games where the class the player wants is strictly female).

Pretty much that.

I think this is so full of crap.
You'd be surprised how many people think like this. I know quite a few guys on WoW that have a female main character for exactly that reason.

The gender of my character depends on the game, the race of the character (orc females in WoW look awful) and the class I'm playing. If I make multiple characters I try to have a mix of both male and female.

Also yeh first ever post after lurking for half a year. Go me.

Well my sister's the reason why i HAVE to play as a girl. See, one day i decided to play a free(unless you want to upgrade) rpg on the internet that i was told about called Adventure quest worlds(figured i should try new stuff). My sister was watching me and kept yelling at me to make the character a girl. I figured it couldn't hurt and i could always delete the character anyways. Oh how i was wrong! I discovered no way to delete the character and i couldn't make a new character. So now i'm stuck playing that character. I'm also getting hit on by other men at least once a day too which makes it worse. But i keep playing since:
1: The games not that bad.
2: If someone hits on me then i can just warp away and then i don't get hit on for the rest of the day.
3: Most of the people on there don't care if i'm a girl or a boy. They care more about me actually helping them beat that very hard to beat monster.
4(This is probably the most important): My sister screams alot when i don't play for her.
So in conclusion i stand out in the reasons catagory above(Yay, i'm unique!).

I would think #'s 1 and 3 are very solid arguments (a lot of mages--especially the most powerful ones--are default female characters). Playing a female fighter would be interesting as well (sure, you would probably lose on strength- unless you were playing a Xena game) but the speed and quickness bonuses would probably more than make up for it.

I usually play a girl when making a stealthy type character. I suppose their little build might not ACTUALLY do anything for my stealth, but it just makes more sense to my mind.

I play male because they're just superior.

I will sometimes make a female in games like Fallout and Morrowind for variety, and I choose that girl in Mercenaries the second time I played, because she had a different bonus and dialog.

It is gay, which is why I can't understand supposedly straight male gamers find themselves staring at their male character's arse, rather than what's happening in the game.

In most 3rd person games, you're character's rear end isn't the focal point of the screen, more often than not it's near the bottom of the screen & offset to one side. The focal point of the screen is usually a cross-hair, or an even a blank area which represent where your character is looking.

I mean if you're playing a game and you keep finding you're attention drawn to you're male character's arse, rather the cross-hair, the HUD, your surroundings, the action on screen or the path your character is taking, then I don't think playing as a woman will help you with your issues, if anything it will only confuse matters.

To me, the entire argument "I'm so straight I have to pretend I'm a woman to stop myself staring at a guy's butt all day" screams gender identity issues and of being so trapped in the closet that R. Kelly is writing songs about you.

When you were playing Fallout 3, during the childhood phase, didn't you purposely not use the 3rd person view out of fear of being busted by Chris Hansen?

EDIT: Happy Toki Toki, this isn't specifically directed at you, even though I quoted you at the beginning, it's for everyone with this strange point of view.

I think this is so full of crap.

Why don't girls ever pick men characters then? After all, they'd be looking at gorgeous hot muscled men.
Because women have a longer attention span, and are not as easily amused as guys for the most part from experience.

(Not to mention in most games the males keep one a tiny bit more clothing, while the women usually go unde the "This tiny little plant on my chest is just as good maybe even better then spikey, something devil might wear big, bulky armor. And it shows off my tits."

I normally play as a girl online, because its escapist. I'm a guy everyday of my life, so why not mix things up a bit. Also if im going to watch a waggling ass I'd rather it was a female one, digital or not.
