In my MMO's I base all of my characters off of family members. So, of course I'm going to use the females of the various races to better depict mi familia.

I did a few times and it was awkward to say the least. I played as a girl in runescape and WOW. On both occassions, I got hit on by guys playing the game. I got hit on a lot as a female noob. Guys would offer me armor for free and ask me if I needed help. It was extremely awkward because I didn't know how to break the news that I wasn't a girl in real life.

I play male characters to avoid being hit on, and since I'm an RPer, I like to play what actually challenges my RP abilities, rather than going the easy route. I'd say that I have a ratio of 5:1 when it comes to male vs female characters on my various accounts.

I play characters of both sexs.

you play opposite sex in games like tombraider, why should it be any different in online games?

there is always this discussion but absolutely no counter argument.

I would say mine is about 50/50 although when I do play as a girl I kind of feel bad for all the actual girls that play these games. can barely walk through a main hub without every guy in a 2 block radius asking for you to be in their party or something worse. really ackward to explain that you are actually a guy.

I'm guy that almost always plays female characters. They're gorgeous (check out the GW avatar pic).

Also for particular games like Vampire: Bloodlines it was much easier to seduce other girls if you were playing a female character (must be a dev lesbian fantasy thing).

I notice that there are a lot of guys playing female characters in every game I've played. Maybe it's the "Hot Elf Chick" thing, I don't know. I usually play female characters, because I RP, and it's easier to RP from my own perspective, but I have male characters too. Funny thing is, I've found that a lot of people seem to just assume that even though the character is female, it's a guy running it, because so many guys have female characters. They're surprised to discover I'm really a female, disguised as....a female. :D

I play as female in all games, i think it's because i have this fetish of seeing girls beating the crap out of giant brutes and stuff like that and also i hate the looks of every male in every game!
WOW
Ne, not a chance
Human, never
Dwarf, maybe for the laughs
Gnome, hell no
Orc, no
Troll, WTF no!
Tauren, maybe...
Undead, cooler animations on females
Bloodelf, the girls are way hotter than the dudes(they look like a nerd that is in my school)

OP, I thought there was a bug on my screen and tried squashing, but it's your DP
XD

As for the topic, I think the females have better melee attacks and are usually faster.

When I had WoW, which was a while back, I was about even for the gender I played as (I'm a guy). I got Fallout 3 and I played as both males and females. I don't know why, I guess it's nice to stray away from the regular.

I'm a female rogue in WoW. But then, if you look at what the male characters are like, you'd see why. I don't really see the stealth abilities of some guy with muscles that are so huge that they would sound like a train any time they flex. Seriously, my character could fit inside the male orc character's biceps twice no problem!

I do partly to take advantage of people sad enough to give away stuff just because they think I'm female but mostly because they're slightly harder to click on in pvp.. every little helps. =s

I only play as Male characters if possible. It doesn't really bother me that others would want to play the opposite gender if they wanted to.

instead of playing as an idealized version of myself, I most like to come up with a character who's company I would enjoy. So usually a girl. Which sounds pathetic in hindsight.
