No VS threads on Escapist, read the forums rules.

OT: WoW will win simply cuz it already has the fan base and has already been crowned MMORPG king, I am just wondering how long it will stay open for before theyu release something like a WoW 2 or something, cuz the graphics are looking dated.

Nothing will be able to beat WoW with it's 12 million accounts.
You're not even tired of it?
It doesn't matter, it's still going to win.

And really, tire of WoW, tire of them all. This is why I don't play MMORPGs.

Let's see...

A game made by a company that knows how to make the most popular games of their genres, multiple times over, without fail... that understands the genre, and has built the most successful MMO ever...

vs...

...a sequel made by the company that made Guild Wars.

Yeah. [sarcasm]totally a tie[/sarcasm].

I like NCSoft, I really do, but... no, GW2 is not going to be a WoW killer.

I think it will be better but I doubt it will have more players, I've been playing guild wars for quite a while now, my friends recommended world of warcraft to me so I downloaded the ten day trial and hated the game, I asked my friend why it's so dull and he said the game doesn't really get fun until you reach level 10, whereas guild wars is fun from the start.

I read the article, and now I'm tempted to give GW2 a try, but it still won't beat WoW.

WoW. I might pick up GW2 at some point, mostly because of no subscription and it looks interesting in terms of gameplay. Would be my first MMO since I played Mu Online, and private servers, back in 2004.

NCSoft is the producer, not the developer. ArenaNet is, and the only game they ever made besides Guild Wars 1 is GW2.

no game will ever kill wow.

It has taken wow 6 years to get to the 12 million subscribers and will take at least 6 more to lose them. so for wow to die off there would have to be several games coming out over the next decade that steals subs. each of them adding up to stealing all of the subs.

so no one game will kill off wow.

GW2 is gonna have to make serious strides in innovations to kill WoW. Sure it may be fresh and interesting, but it's gonna have to more than that to pull players away from the juggernaut that is World of Warcraft. Will it do good? Sure, I can see it gaining a sizable player-base; but WoW has been around for a long time and has had time to work out alot of it's flaws as well as gain a huge player-base.

GW2 has even less of a chance than TOR and TOR doesn't stand any chance of beating WOW.

Without a subscription fee, the game also won't be nearly as profitable. I wouldn'd want to see GW2 to fail though and I hope they manage to scrape by, but forget about killing WOW.
Frankly, I never played WoW because of the subscription fee. (Irony!)

That being said, i'm not entirely sure you could say the creators of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2 scraped by. There are so many more people on there than most think, and you can pay for a lot of things which a lot of people do. More bank space, more character slots, The other campaigns, you name it. Heck, you can now spend $45 on making all of your characters a hero for each character (not so that you have two of the same character, but one character can have your other characters with them in a party now).

There are a lot of dedicated people to Guild Wars and most likely to be more on Guild Wars 2. No where near as much as WoW, mind you, but definitely more than enough for them to scrape by.

The only winners here are people who ignore talk like this.

Its not just one or the other.

GW2's lack of subscriptions means it may sell as many copies as WoW, but people will just play both

i think it'll be a far better game, but then what do I know, I've never played WoW.

Of course Guild Wars 2, you silly.

In all seriousness, economically speaking, nobody will ever beat WoW.

But in gameplay, GW1 was (is) already better than WoW and GW2 will be just a thousand times better.

I say Guild Wars 2, first one was great but I got a little frustrated at the level 20 level cap. Anet said the cap would be raised, the archetype healer-class is being removed in favor of set healer abilities(in other words, every class can heal themselves and do not need a healer, they have a set healer skill making it easier to build teams), the game looks BEAUTIFUL, you can interact with the environment in some pretty dynamic ways, and the races are pretty cool as well as the lore and story behind it.

The level cap is 80.

GW2 will redefine MMOs, but it won't beat WoW's numbers, purely because it HAS those numbers. Those numbers won't suddenly drain away.
