GW2 has even less of a chance than TOR and TOR doesn't stand any chance of beating WOW.
Without a subscription fee, the game also won't be nearly as profitable. I wouldn'd want to see GW2 to fail though and I hope they manage to scrape by, but forget about killing WOW.
Frankly, I never played WoW
because of the subscription fee. (Irony!)
That being said, i'm not entirely sure you could say the creators of Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2
scraped by. There are so many more people on there than most think, and you can pay for a lot of things which a lot of people do. More bank space, more character slots,
The other campaigns, you name it. Heck, you can now spend $45 on making all of your characters a hero for each character (not so that you have two of the same character, but one character can have your other characters with them in a party now).
There are a lot of dedicated people to Guild Wars and most likely to be more on Guild Wars 2. No where near as much as WoW, mind you, but definitely more than enough for them to
scrape by.
