It's funny, because 5000 people are killed every week worldwide by seasonal flu. So far there have been 15 confirmed deaths caused by swine flu, and 101 suspected deaths by swine flu. AIDS kills 38500 people every week. Spanish Flu killed 50 million people in 1919. This whole thing has been blown out of proportion.

Not really relevant to this particular discussion, but an interesting fact.

Enough of that particular tangent though, I don't see why this would cause any offence.

I think that's a different strain of flu you're thinking of there - The Spanish Flu. I could be wrong though.

Another fun fact: There hasn't been a single pig that's tested positive for this strain of flu. There's hardly any evidence to suggest that it came from pigs.
Correct me if Im wrong, but isn't this a mutation of that flu?
You are correct, sir. Swine Flu is just a new Spanish Flu, slightly mutated.

I do see a problem.I'm not one of those people who will run around making a big fuss and screaming lawsuit, but I do think it was quite unnecessary on Blizzard's behalf.

Although on the other hand, that's the same problem I have with all of their in-game Pop-culture references to real life.

They didnt go too far, but with hundreds of people dying from it, they should really think of removing it.
They should remove the scourge plague while their at it. Millions died from the plague in the 14th century.

well, you called me a troll for no apparent reason .. and i called you a fat american in response which makes you feel bad or something [i hate all americans, i am sorry]
I explained why I called you a troll, and even apologized.

But it doesn't change the fact that you are a bigot. You hate people simply because of where they're from. That is bigotry, that is wrong, and it makes it so I no longer need to apologize for calling you a troll, because you are one.

Grow up and learn the fact that where someone is from doesn't completely determine what they're like. Yes, I'm American. Most American's I've met aren't fat. And a lot of them are good people.

You are a troll and a bigot, and until I see evidence otherwise, my view stands. Good day, sir.
says the man proud of his people that hate everyone else because they are "terrorists" when actually their own government is the one that made all the "terrorist" attacks on his own people so they could do the stuff they do now and are incredibly stupid,indoctrinated,corrupt,ignorant... i'm not saying all of them are like this, but most of them match this pattern perfectly, especially the ones from the south
Get educated, you moron. Yes, some Americans do think that way (and I will agree with you, I hate those that do think that way), but most do not.

And you think that we attacked our own people? That whole conspiracy theory ended years ago. It's a load of bull.

Plus, have you ever even been to America? Interacted with it's people? Have you ever actually met anyone that acts in the pattern you think most match perfectly? I highly doubt it.

One final thing, I'd like to apologize to the creator of this thread. We've taken this into a wild tangent, and I will no longer reply to what he has to say. There's no reaching people like that. I'll only comment on the subject of the thread further if I feel the need to.
Yes I agree, the fuck-tarded rumour of the american government attacking themselves is just...well, Fuck-Tarded.

That is hilarious! I love that they took an overreaction and stuck it in a game! They are to be applauded.
Nah Blizzard should have made another corrupted blood and called it swine flu. That would be awesome!

Psh, another misinformed person eh?

Basically, as people have stated before, Swine Flu was in World of Warcraft since the Lich King beta (in other words, way before the current outbreak today).

So Blizzard is not doing anything wrong, it just happened that the exact same disease that was in the game also occured in real life. People only realized the connections now, when before people just looked at Warcraft's Swine Flu as just another debuff.

Also, there's way too many poll options for something so simple. Seriously people, make 2 or 3 choices, not freaking 6 that pretty much match each other's statements.

Hmm, I don't remember that, but then again I haven't been around Borean Tundra.

No, it's not going too far. Blizzard, being based in California, would probly not add it if it was to poke fun at the recent outbreak. Also, as some people have already pointed out, this isn't a new virus. It's been around for years, and if it isn't new, has been around in game long before this outbreak. (The expansion which the area is in shipped in November 2008.)

Secondly, I can't see Blizzard going back into semi-old content just to poke fun at something, and if they did, it would make sense for all the "pig" monsters in the game to be able to give the debuff as well.

I thought they were both mutations of the same flu. Fair enough then.

The Swine Flu is going to be just like Sars. "Son I have Sars.... No dad! Son I only have a 98% chance of living... Dad no don't say that!"

Don't feed the trolls, man.

Also, not to worry: as a dutchman I'm quite confident that the negative stereotype will be mediated soon.

Regardless: fuck that guy. Too many words spent on someone not worthy of your attention.

Ontopic:
No, they didn't. Even if it was in response to the most recent media panic, Blizzard has every right to make light of anything, even if it offends some. If there's one credo (is that dutch? English? I don't even know anymore) I've always embraced it's that everyone has the right to express themselves in any way they see fit, and everyone else has the right to ignore them.

Actually, it did "come" from pigs. This virus has four types. Although virus' aren't living, you can think of those types as the same "family", just different "species". Originally all four used to infect only pigs, with the fourth one occasionally infecting humans. Then the fourth one mutated and now only infects humans. Because of this, there's five. It did come from pigs, but this particular strain has nothing to do with them.
Well, yeah, but I just meant this particular strain of the virus. An epidemiologist I shant make.
