I got my Xbox a year and three months ago and it got the RROD of just two nights ago. I had on my rage face something fierce. Then I held a small candle lit vigil in memorium...

My original one RROD'd about a year or so after I bought it. I got an Elite after that and so far no problems. Id give it a few years though. Apparently buying a fan for your 360, which should cost about £10 or $20, will make the console last a bit longer, maybe squeeze a few more months out of it. Don't quote me on that though.

My 360 Elite hasn't failed me yet, but I was tempted to say I didn't have one just to agree that Susan Arendt is indeed the queen of teh ponies.

Edit
Bought mine about a year ago, left home for 4 days last month, came back and it was dead, got E64 i think, shipped it off and Microsoft and they sent it back twice. Didn't even open the box or give me a reason, just shipped it back like I DIDNT HAVE THERE LABLE ON THE FRONT. Sent it back again on the 7th haven't heard anything so i expect if back again soon, probably not fixed ill probable just sell it or something and get a new, one will probably be cheaper to.

I've had a 360 for a little over a year now, and I've gotten one E74 so far. So I think I'm near the center of the Bell curve.

i was going to put Cowboy Neal but this isn't slashdot, so i picked an Escapist staff at random and picking that would have semi-skewed the results

still from the people who have had reported it's still above what the article said it was, tho it might be a bit off cause we're gamers

well so far in the poll 70.7% of the 360 have failed in total
41.7% have failed once
14% have failed twice
15% have failed 3 times

that's a pretty scary set of stats but i think since it is a concentrated group it might go a bit higher than the mean

My 360 failed once. It was the E74 error. Around last Novemeber, IIRC.

I did look after it well. It was well enough ventilated too. I can only assume it was due to a hardware error or something. I take good care of all my consoles.

First premium's disc tray broke, wouldn't read discs at all.
First elite wouldn't switch on, fresh from the box.
Original hard drive corrupted, got an extra 120gig one.
Second premium's disc tray stopped opening unless I forced it open, and then red ringed about 2 months later.
Have also broke 2 controllers, 6 headsets, a wireless adaptor and 3 games.

Replaced my premium with a brand new arcade, and the second elite's still going strong.

Failed once. Got it repaired by Microsoft. I actually have two of them now, and Elite and my old one I got right after they launched. The elite has never had any problems.

My PS3 was the real problem. It released the magic blue smoke and nearly started a fire.

Around this time last year, after going strong for like 3 years. In its defense, I shouldn't have made it play Rise of the Argonauts

I sent it in and they gave me a new one.

my first one has a broken disk drive, only reads about half my games for 10 minutes at a time, and overheats if it's not buried in the Arctic, but it is yet to red ring. My Xbox: leading the way in them not exploding.

I've had a NES, N64, original Xbox, and now a 360, as well as a number of different hand-helds, but none have failed me thus far. I've worked 'em pretty hard too.

Answer: Like the American economy. Countless times that are inconvenient for the majority of the people.
