I grew up watching the real life version of the awesomeness that is TMNT the movie, so that takes my favorite adaption. Never actually seen the cartoon that spawned the movie though.
Ahem, it's actually based on a comicbook series, while taking some elements from the first cartoon. A lot of people think that series is where TMNT started due to the comics being pretty obscure.
Well if the comics came first, then it was the cartoon series that garnered it's popularity which made way for the movie...which is what I meant in saying that. The popularity of the cartoon series had a hand in spawning the movie.

As a kid, the first animated series is what got me into the Turtles but after a while I found out about the original black and white comics. Those were a bit of a revalation to me at the time and I still find them my favourite Turtle representation of the Turtles. I don't really feel like any of the TMNT stuff I've seen/read has really done terribly though.. it's just very obvious that they were tailored to different audiences.

This poll is incomplete, what about the 97-98 live action TV show, Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation? It clearly is the best out of all the turtles stuff.

I was going to include that as a joke.

The 2003 series is better than the 1987 series in pretty much every way. It followed a lot of the comic book story arcs faithfully and it had a FAR more competent and evil version of Shredder, as well as better-looking fight scenes and actual character-development.

I should also note I grew up with the 1987 series and the kid in me still gets giddy whenever I see anything related to that version of the turtles.

Hmmm I'm not sure. I loved watching the 2003 version, but the new show is actually very well done in my opinion. Although some people have issues with the animation style, I personally enjoy it.

Fuck it, I'm voting Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. None of the other turtles got to meet up with the Power Rangers.

It's interesting that now TMNT and Power Rangers are on the same channel again.

I don't know. Although the '87 series was part of my childhood, I thought the 2003 series was pretty good too. It certainly had the better incarnation of The Shredder.

I voting for the first live action films (except for the third film). Sure I like the 2003 but I like the film more while the new show is too soon for me to fully like yet.

The original comics are my favorite -- at least until they started making it sillier and more kid friendly, because the show was out and they knew kids would by buying it. It was always kind of silly, but it got /really/ silly after they moved into the farm house. Note that I'm not actually old enough to have read it when it was new, I found out just how awesome the comics were a few years ago when I randomly found cheap copies of the first couple trade editions (the original short ones, which are pretty cool, done in color instead of the original black and white, but sadly not worth much) and realized it was a really good comic. I grew up on early 90's re-runs of the '87 cartoon, and the live action movies, and even the 2003 cartoon, but the original comic is my favorite of the bunch.

Did you ever get to see them return to New York? Because they do and they stop getting silly(as in they get back into continuity).

I'm gonna say the 2003 version (at least up until the point where they went to the future and things got stupid.)

The 1980's version isn't bad... but it's really cheesy and a bit too corny for my tastes.

Well, when the first cartoon came out I was an 8 year old and it blew everyone's mind's and every christmas from than on was pretty turtle-centric.
