I'm intrigued.
There has to be at least one guy here who's not blinded by nostalgia.
Does it count that it is the ONLY version of TMNT that I've ever seen at length? Am I still blinded by nostalgia if I pick it? Besides the live action movies that is.

I picked the live action but there's an addendum:

Not the 3rd movie. That is one of the worst of the all time worst of worst movies evar in the history of all things that are the worst of something.

All I've seen is one VHS of the '87 TV-series and one movie. I liked the TV-show more. Ninja Turtles never felt like that big of a deal over here. Things like Pokemon and Spider-Man were all the rage when I was a kid.

Hey I didn't mean anything mean by it. It's just that I see a lot of people say they love something simply the one they "grew up on". I rather have people vote on the one they actually thought was better rather than the one that gives them happy memories.

But your vote is good. If you know it better, you can reasonably assume that you'd like it better.

I'm sure everyone who picked live action has that addendum :)

Prorbably the 2003 version, I watched the old one when I was really young so I don't remember it as much and I feel the 2003 one did it proper justice and the combat just felt much better.

Who wants a thread that isn't about politics and kids who got murdered?

So, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is 28-year old franchise that has been adapted into every medium possible. And like most comic book franchises, they have ranged from campy and silly, to dark and serious. Since I am a fan of the franchise as a whole I want to know, which version of TMNT is your favorite?
Holy crap, you nearly gave me a hernia with a title like that; Why is there a thread about me? AHHH!

I absolutely loved the 1987 animated series (can you tell?) But I think if I saw an episode today it would just be awful: They don't use their weapons, it's all just punches and kicks, everyone only ever gets knocked out, and the characters were highly cartoonised and plots incredibly childish, still, the nostalgia is there, Saturday morning TV used to be worth getting up for.

The 2012 series is on Saturday mornings

The original comics are my favorite -- at least until they started making it sillier and more kid friendly, because the show was out and they knew kids would by buying it. It was always kind of silly, but it got /really/ silly after they moved into the farm house. Note that I'm not actually old enough to have read it when it was new, I found out just how awesome the comics were a few years ago when I randomly found cheap copies of the first couple trade editions (the original short ones, which are pretty cool, done in color instead of the original black and white, but sadly not worth much) and realized it was a really good comic. I grew up on early 90's re-runs of the '87 cartoon, and the live action movies, and even the 2003 cartoon, but the original comic is my favorite of the bunch.
Did you ever get to see them return to New York? Because they do and they stop getting silly(as in they get back into continuity).
If you're talking about the return of the Shredder mini arc, I did read it, but it kind of happened and then they went right back to the silliness in the countryside. Do they go back to New York for good at some point? I only got up to the storyline with the mutated leech that de-mutated Raphael by sucking his blood out, mutating himself in the process.

I read the the entire Volume 1. They later have this storyline called City at War where the Foot clan start a war on New York and Karai, the leader of the Japanese Foot clan, has to help stop it. It was pretty good and Casey had an interesting side story.

That... sounds really cool. Sounds like I need to start reading those comics again :D

*Raises hand.* I'm 24! Also female.

But I'm gonna go with 2003. Theme is cooler, animation is nicer and voices are more awesome. I believe I regained my crush on the boys again like I had when I was little.

Hmmm I'm not sure. I loved watching the 2003 version, but the new show is actually very well done in my opinion. Although some people have issues with the animation style, I personally enjoy it.

Fuck it, I'm voting Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation. None of the other turtles got to meet up with the Power Rangers.

Never actually saw that because I had to go to this after school place when it came on and so I missed it. But I heard somewhere on the internet that The Next Mutation had them NOT be brothers!!!

That right there ends it for me. I don't care if they did have a female turtle.

39 here
im still pissed that cartoon in 1987 practically killed the rpg. it was a good game but no one would touch something everyone viewed as being based on a kids show.
That was like the first merchandise ever made for the turtles, right? It even had art by Eastman and Laird themselves. These days it'd be hard to find Turtles merchandise that has the all-red-masks version of them.
yeah it did have art work from the original comics. i miss my turtles asking for a beer at a party and tossing shredder off a roof with a hand grenade. haha i still remember my rpg group sitting down to watch the cartoon the first time it aired and the dumbfounded "wtf is this shit?" response everyone had. after that we pretty much moved into heroes unlimited and then shadowrun
I would love to see TMNT products that have Eastman and Laird art on them. Most shirts and stuff I see always have the 1987 cartoon version of them which to me looks ugly(I heard someone describe them as mutated Cabbage Patch Kids). The only merchandise I've seen in the Mirage style were the NECA figures. Man, do I so want some of those.
