i like fantasy and sci-fi my favorite book is probably magician by Raymond E. Fiest that book made me realise there are actually interesting books out there other then the ones my school made me read.
You have excellent taste in books.

Magician is also one of my favourite, I generally read Fantasy novels, but ive read alot more, I have enjoyed reading Matthew Rielly's books too, like Ice Station and Contest... Damn i want them to be made into movies.

Slihgtley random, but is Dune a good book? Ive seen it on my bookshelf and want t know if its worth reading.

Generally non-fiction, largely historical, anthropological. I also read about religions and myths quite a lot, as well as Russian classics, from Pushkin up to Pasternak, for my university course.

Reading is an activity I often use to fill gaps. Other than that, I read before I go to sleep and in the train. I finish about 2 or 3 books a month. Mostly scifi, but some crazy scientific philosophical books can be fun too (GEB FTW).

Most days, only a chapter or two a day but that's still more than most people I know.
I'm currently reading Richard Morgan after hearing about him because of his links to Crysis 2, I investigated him on wikipedia got as far as a line saying "noir and cyberpunk" and immediately bought his book Altered Carbon.
Before that I've recently read 4 of the Dexter books and pretty much every Ender and Bean book.

Quite a lot, mostly economics, political philosophy and history.

Fiction doesn't really interest me any more, but when I was a kid I used to love Brian Jaques' Redwall series.

I liked Magician as well but I only read it for the first time a few weeks ago. Having read Eddings and others before it wasn't as fresh for me as it was for some. Still a god read though.

Dune is an intersting book, I can't say its my favourite but worth a read without a doubt. If you like it there's a series.

Shit loads of everything.

Everything. Got books everywhere and spend loads of time in the library, re-read shit loads too.

By the way Op, which Russian classics are you talking about? I've read a few of Chekov's shorts which were great but not many others. I have yet to pick up a copy of War and Peace.

For authors which Escapians might not have heard of but need to read there's Phillip K. Dick, apart from his science fiction stuff you really need to check out his masterpiece Valis. Seriously.

Also Robert Rankin for an author on par with Pratchett, George Macdonald Fraser for history/comedy (better I think then anything Cornwall has spewed out, damn I love Sharpe) and for that matter Woodhouse must be read. Ah yeah J.k Jerome's Three Men In A Boat is great.

Jules Vernes stuff is good but bored me a bit as for those who might not read Twain, check out a Conneticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. For all intents and purposes a political commentary alike Animal Farm wrapped in a time travelling fantasy adventure.

H.G Well's is the daddy of scifi for a reason, for those who've read modern classics and like Gemmel/Feist/Asimov/Adams check him out. Just.... I don't know, maybe you'll come to like the drawn out descriptions of everything.

Also check out a good translation of Don Quioxte, it's really worth reading (make sure you get one that gets the humour down right.) Also the Three Musketeers, Man in the Iron Mask, well anything by Dumas. Really. He was an arrogant prick but a god with a quill, best of his age if any.

Jesus there's really too many now that I think about it, there's too many...... argh AGrGh the weight of literature....!

My favorite book is Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz. Others are "Inside Delta Force" by Eric L. Haney, "Shutter Island" by...uh, I dunno, and "Medic!" by...uh, I dunno either and I haven't found those books since I moved otherwise I'd post the author's names...I'd say that my favorite genres has been military memoirs lately. Their pretty crazy, sometimes funny (soldiers are surprisingly lighthearted at times), and the fact that they are true stories make them resonate so much more to me than a typical book.

I read a fuckload, but three years of an English degree has meant I haven't been able to pick what I read lately, short of squeezing in some comics between books. Pretty much finished now though, so I intend to get cracking on the huge list of books I've jotted down while at university.

My favourite book is probably Treasure Island, I know it's not very academic or intellectual, but that's precisely why I like it. It's by no means the "best" book I've ever read (that would be 1984) but after spending most of my academic life deconstructing fiction, I can still enjoy the simple adventure of it.

Also anything by Irvine Welsh is pure gold, the most relatable fiction I've ever read.

I sometimes pick up a good book here and there.
Just got done reading The Great Gatsby [ of my own accord, not for class ]. I tried Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment, but I don't think I ever got done with that...

I don't read much at all, mainly because I don't have the time for it - I'm the primary care giver of 4 younger siblings with my finals at school to do. The only books I can afford to read are the books I'm required to read - and even then reading them takes too much time away from other things I need to do.

I also don't enjoy reading as much as I imagine many others on here do, but that may be down to the fact that I haven't read many books in my life.

Having said all that, I still have a high appreciation for good literature and can definitely understand why some people are so well read.
