I have just seen the English dub of 'Howl's Moving Castle', and I must say that I thought it was amazing. But then I went online a saw that a lot of people really hated it. Why? Did I miss somthing?

So really all I want to ask you is this: What did you think of 'Howl's Moving Castle'?

ps, sorry if my spelling is a bit off.

I watched it once when I was quite young. It had cool characters and pretty colors so I thought it was the shit.

I love it. I think it may be my favorite film. The animation is superb, the acting is great and the plot is awesome too.
I almost shed a tear when I saw Howl's secret garden for the first time.

I loved it.It's got so many great little things, like Howl freaking out over his hair, and summing the dread or whatever. And then his assistant telling Sophie,"He did this before one time, when a girl dumped him."

I think it got such bad reviews from fans because it didn't stick to the book.Same thing with Tales of Earthsea, which the author doesn't like, and says something to the effect of,"it isn't my Earthsea. It's Miyazaki's,and it is good, but it certainly isn't the one I envisioned."

I haven't got around to seeing it yet, but everyone I know who has seen it says it's brilliant.

Where would you say it ranks in comparison to the other Ghibli movies?
My favourite so far is probably either Castle in the Sky or Princess Mononoke.

Twas a pretty good film, Miyazaki's usual blend of fantasy and such will never cease to amaze me. I wasn't too keen on the romantic interest sparked throughout portions of the film but that's just me...am not too big on romance in movies and it was surprising to see it come out of a Studio Ghibli title as other films had hinted on love interests but it was usually incredibly subtle and made you question if it was there at all at times

The only issue and it wasn't even much of one was when Christian Bale's voice came from Howl himself as I sorta imagined the character to have a lighter tone to his dubbed voice. But only a few mins in later and I found it to be rather fitting.

I know what you mean when it comes to movies like this being dubbed, I for one never mind dubs and find a lot of hatred towards them is a little over the top for reasons I'm not quite sure I understand.
For instance, Mark Hamill who played Muska in Castle in the Sky for the dub went a little over the top sometimes in his manic shoutings and rantings...but I looked at the character's actions and found that his voice matched it perfectly to be honest. The argument that English voices get a bit overboard at times I find doesn't hold much water because the Japanese voices themselves tend to get a bit carried away themselves when the character in question is being dramatic

I saw it ages ago, and recently saw about 30 minutes of it. It's friggin' awesome, as is most of Miyazaki's movies.
Not better than Spirited Away though.

I had to put the book it was based on completely out of my head to watch it, it's similar right up until the halfway mark, then does a complete 180 on the book. This isn't a bad thing, I love them both and it's obviously an adapation of the idea, rather than a word for word script matching said book.

It really is a fantastic film, the animation and story structure are suberb. But I highly reccomend the book as well, if only to get a little bit more perspective on the characters, it's by Diana Wynne Jones, and there are also two sequels.

Pretty good, but not one of my favorite Ghibli movies, I won't watch it again.

A lot of my friends had raved about it, but when I finally saw it my reaction was 'meh'. It was by no means a bad movie, but I couldn't find anything amazing about it.

Princess Mononoke and My little Totoro are better in my opinion. But it's still amazing. Highly prefer the subbed version though. :p

It's not like it blew me away, but it is a good movie never the less. I preferred Spirited Away.
