I was wondering what the escapist community thought about hunting. Being a hunter myself I feel that hunting is a privilage that everyone should have the option to participate in if they wish(after they have taken the proper safty classes). Unlike what some people think, hunting is a very challenging sport with requirments and rules that vary from area to area. Also I hunt with a bow at the beginning of deer season, and a muzzel loading(black power) rifle at the end, only using a shotgun (firing slugs)during the period where the seasons overlap in the middle. Also where I live you cannot use rifles at all to hunt deer(i'm not sure why), so the only guns that you can use are high powered hand guns(obviously very chllenging to hit at a distance) and shotguns firing a solid bullet called a slug, which are powerful but suffer from being no where near as accurate as a rifle.

I would go into detail about the other hunting seasons, but i'm lazy, and feel it would just be easier to respond to anything later on. so how do you feel about hunting?

I think as long as it's balanced, and the hunter uses the animal that he kills, I think it's ok. It's no less cruel then how we get beef, pork and chicken. Plus if there is an overpopulation of deer, thining out their numbers helps other deer, and keeps them from starving to death.

Hunting is the manliest sport out there but those hippy vegiterians don't think so. Its basic nature ,we have been hunting for millenia. Though I've never been hunting because I can't own a gun.
you can always try hunting with a bow, or crossbow. They requir no firearms licence and are still very deadly.

My brother and I hunt on ocassion. Its a good drive from our house to hunting grounds so its not a weekly thing. I think its alright as long as you use your kill to its full extent. Also, don't let them suffer. If you mess up the shot, finish the job. Just because your killing them doesnt mean you get to torture them-Quick and clean.

Me and my family always use the meat from the animal, at this very moment I am eating home-made deer jerky, which taste even better then regular jerky.

Well, so long as the animal is eaten/used/is a pest. Here in the UK you are allowed to shoot pigeons and grey squirrels. I do with a bb gun and a sling. Occasionally nail 'em in the back garden. Usually with the sling, the BB gun is a bit underpowered and the bullets get caught in updrafts a lot.

As long as the hunter has respect for their prey, and for nature itself, I am okay with it. I don't like those that treat hunting as a sport, or those that use advanced equipment, making it essentially shooting fish in a barrel. Hunting is about survival and connecting with nature, not just killing stuff.

I'd be a hypocrite if I said killing animals was wrong, since I'm eating a chicken curry right now. I do believe, however, that in an ideal world we would not be eating animals.

As for hunting, I think that it is no worse than farming as long as the animals are used. Doing it for pure entertainment is most definately wrong though.

I love hunting, I killed a deer last month and it was awesome. Except, there was only one bad thing I hated about it. (Actually this a my fault, so it doesn't happen all the time.)

Gutshots. Oh God, gutshots. I don't think there is anything worse than I gutshot I made that morning.

After I shot the buck, we went down to pick it up and put it on the cart attached to the truck when I saw where the bullet went. "My dad says, "That there's a gutshot." At the time I didn't really care but when we got back to the water hose-cleaning station thing, we started gutting it. As soon as we opened it up, out came the most horrible stench on the planet.

I hadn't realized how bad the gutshot wound was at first, but when we cut it open, out came shit, corn, grass, and blood.

IT WAS SO DISGUSTING

Hunting is fine as long as its not for sport and your actually gonna eat what you kill.

As long as the hunted doesn't die a long, slow and painful death, hey, why not?

hunters are necessary to keep the balance in the forest's ecosystem
In the US, this is true as we killed most of the predators that keep the ecosystem in check.

I hate hunting. I think killing animals for fun or sport is terrible. It disgusts me that humans regard murder to be a sport.

Hunting for sport is wrong, if you feel the need to kill things to validate your existence you need help, or should join the army.

Hunting for practical purposes is just fine. Everyone's got to eat.

Hey, if a man can provide for himself then why not let him. As long as you're killing for a good reason. To eat is a good reason, humans have been doing it for centuries.

I think it depends on the location, the creature being hunted, and what you intend from it. Oh and the methods you use.
In Britain there was the whole fox hunting thing, (well there still is but it's illegal). I disagree with this because it's unnecessary, the methods used (chasing it and then watching dogs tear it apart) are inhumane and they have nothing to gain from it.

Shooting deer on the other hand, I have no problem with. You use the meat, they're bred for that purpose. Or in the states, some places have a lot of them and they need killing for the ecosystem to survive.
