I enjoyed it as a movie but I don't think it compares to the source material at all, I feel as if the original has a far better message and more powerful symbolism to back itself up.

Id give it a fresh rating of 7/10.

I loved the movie except the religious parts near the end (coming from me, this should be surprising) The whole "God sent me to save you" bullshit was completely out of place with the rest of the film and ruined everything beyond then.

To be honest, it is incomparable to the book, not because the book is that much better, but they are really nothing alike.

Not bad, but what the hell was the point of...

Standing there with the fucking grenade to stop them, when he could have just climbed into the tunnel after those guys, and tossed the grenade behind him for the EXACT SAME EFFECT!
Indeed. That part wasn't very well thought out. They should have made it so one of them got past him and he had to detonate the grenade to kill them all before it opened up the hiding place or something.

Right now as I am writing this it is 12:28 at night. My dad is sitting near me watching as well. I am near the end of the movie I Am Legend where he's sacrificing himself. This movie kept me gripping my sofa's seat all night... What was your most intense part of the movie? Did you even like it what would you rate it? If you didn't like it what did you not like.
Mine is all of the movie I honestly cant pick I love this movie now. 5 out of 5!!!!
Yeah i really liked that part too. But that is an old movie to be watching for the first time, right?
Well I am 13 so in 2007 I was barely like 10 or 11 so I didn't care to see it XD

The one with Will Smith? It sucked. Not the main part of the movie so much, but definitely the ending. For those who don't know...

SPOILER!
The actual plot(ie not the failure of a remake I Am Legend) ends with our protagonist being shown to be the bad guy and the vampires to be the good guys. It gives a moral story, but test audiences for I Am Legend didn't appreciate we humans appearing as bad guys, so the ending was rewritten. Released as "The controversial alternate ending" on DVD, you get to watch the real ending, but it's still not as good as the original. So...1 out of 5 because they failed to capture the original message of the movie, and remade it into a mindless action flick aka Hollywood generic failure.
put spoiler tags please, I though you meant the ending to the I am Legend with Will Smith, which I have seen,

but an ending like that would be awesome!
(how can vampires be good anyway, need to know moar!)

2-5 Mainly because its such a dumbed down version of the book i mean if we look at the title "i am legend" in the book its taken to mean that he is the last of a dead race he is now a creature of myth to the vampires (and yes they are vampires)as vampire we once a myth to humans.

In the film the title is taken to mean will smith is legendary vampire pwner who just achieved a new high score with his legendary skills.

If it was the alt ending or a entirely different film (as in didn't claim to be a book adaptation) I would give it a 4-5 as its a good stand alone piece as it stands comparing the film to the book is like comparing star wars episode 1 to episode 4 .

Really liked the first two thirds up to when his dog dies. This would have been a nice ending for the film. This first part is all about him being alone, survival; the harsh reality (as MaxChaos said it "the day-to-day live"). But after the scene where his dog dies, which no doubt is a pivotal point in the movie, the whole tone of the movie changes. There are suddenly all these nice coincidences. It begins to be this more magic story about destiny and faith. And i don't mind a movie with those kind of themes, but the problem here is it all suddenly falls in near the end of the movie, just because.
I also thought the original ending was better, it had a allot of depth to it, don't understand why they changed it.

Dear lord I've had enough of that damn film and all its predecessors! I've just spent nearly an entire school term analysing 'Omega Man' and 'I Am Legend' and can now remember key scenes down to every one of Charlton Hestons squints and every one of Will Smiths unintelligable screeches!

Pretty much your standard "book was better" response. In comparison to the novel, the film was terrible. In its own right, it was average. Watchable but easily forgotten.

Pretty much anyone who's read the book hates the film. What they did to Neville and his final stand is downright atrocious.
Exactly. So far, not one person in the thread prefers the film. Even those who've only read a synopsis of the book have agreed.
Good to hear. I'll even take it a step further and, with all due respect, I'll state that Mr. Matheson should be ashamed of himself and his apparent indifference towards his own work. He has lost considerable integrity. Just like Stephen King ... The Running Man could have been an epic film, but oh no, Mr. King had to get all greedy.

I have high hopes for The Road though.

The book is much better, that may seem like a cliche but it's the universally agreed truth. The vampires all looked the same in the film, I would have preferred if all of the "infected" people were actually real people, as the book intended it to be. They were psychologically affected to believe they were vampires, even attempting to fly at parts. In the film, they were just faceless creatures. I think they did the seclusion well, and the fear of staying inside at night with all the lights turned off. But none of it was done with the finesse of the novel.
