I believe that everyone is a scumbag, with more or less repellent faults that have nothing to do with their respective races. I know the phenotypical differences are just traits, and that the base pairs of every human on Earth are the same. I hear that bullshit that black people have an extra muscle in their calves, or have some kind of "fast-twitch" nerve fibers that make them better dancers, but it is just that. Bullshit. It simply isn't true.

Take any two places on the globe, take one person from each place, and skin them. You will be hard pressed to tell who came from where by looking.
Not amongst all the vomit, no. ;¬)

I've sometimes found myself profiling people I see on the streets by color, but I will never act on this involuntary racism. It's also hard to not appear racist since there are only seven black guys in my whole school, and I've just never been in the same social group as any of them.

Im with the OP on this one-- my generic lunch outing is pretty motley-- white boy (me), my asian fiancee, puerto rican, jew, indian, and a french-asian.

Black people who are not extremely well dressed or obviously gay make me uneasy. I really don't mean to feel like this, but I feel like they are going to swivel around, and hurt me and my family.

Maybe its all a media and police conspiracy-- 12 % of the US population but 50% of the prison population... its no small wonder they have this generic reputation.

I think I used to be racist, but I'm a white graduate of a black medical school. I think if you're put in a situation where you're around exceptional people of a different race you begin to view things differently.
Hell, the best man in my wedding, my gross anatomy lab partner, was black.

How long before this forum gets shut down?
An hour, tops.

Why does everyone feel the need to make threads on racism?!?
I know right?
No faith in the maturity of the Escapist Community? As long as the discussion remains civil, this thread will remain alive. It's not a bad topic, just a somewhat taboo one.

I've been threw this a lot, I'm so not racist that I come of as pretty damn racist. I find the very notion of racism to be pretty funny. It just seems like an arbitrary thing to judge people on. I also say a lot of racist jokes or whatever. People probably think I'm racist but I'm like a Buddhist cherish all life kinda guy so I dunno.

And by racist jokes I pretty much mean saying racist things to my friends of that race to piss them off

I just got done with another racism topic no more than an hour ago. And that one had six or seven pages of immaturity. So forgive me if I'll reserve judgment.

Wait, so you're... a cat? One of those robots that can pretend to hold an intelligent conversation? Malik Ishtar?
No, I am in fact an aberrant humanoid known as a bog hermit. As far as I know, there are very few of us left, and we are an endangered species.

In another response: Socially? Do not get me started. Do not even mention the word social near me. Most of my contempt for mankind originates from social matters.
i cant find anything about bog hermits on the internet or in my magical creatures encyclopedia. are bog hermits called anything else? where are they from? what do they do?
Bog hermits do not naturally use the internet, nor are they widely known. As per their name suggests, they live in or around bogs, where humans do not usually venture. We are not magical, simply out of the ordinary. When bog hermits were more prosperous, there were small clans, led by a bog oracle, which lived in small villages in the woods. Now that the acreage of forested land has been decreasing, clans are now almost gone. We do not know where we originated from, because we live primarily in the present, due to extremely limited memory. We do what we need to survive, and what is fun, nothing else. Some bog hermits in other parts of the world were mistaken for the stereotypical meditating guru, and some were even approached by curious travelers. Since our outlook on life is close to what humans call Zen, they passed and were accepted into human culture.

I'm not racist. I love every person on the planet. You've all got such juicy spinal fluids, and soft, delicate jugulars. How could I not love such a vulnerable species? ^-^

Anthropologists (if i am using the right term) believe that every one is inherantly inclined to people that look more like them. The people that most likely share their DNA. It explains nationalism, racism, and in some cases sexism.

As a White man, you would be more inclined to trust and treat other White Men better than you would black men. You are also more inclined to treat anglo-saxons more nicely than you would a Slovac if you were anglo-saxon. It all has to do with the hippocampus (if that is the right part of the brain) which also dictates the need to breed, fight, and eat.

And As every ones favorite Gunnery Sgt once said.

"You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shit. Because I am hard you will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on niggers, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless. And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps. Do you maggots understand that?"

But wait, allow me to explain myself.

I grew up in Toronto (I'm still there) with Asian people, white people, South-Asian people, black people and saw that their race had nothing to do with what kind of person they were. My beliefs are not racist. In theory.

None of this has prevented me from an unfounded distrust of black people. I have friends who are black, but I notice that I'm not nearly as friendly to them as I am to friends of other races who are just as friendly to me as my black friends. I feel myself forcing me to be open and friendly when, say, I end up in a casual conversation with a black guy at the corner store. I feel myself get uptight when a black person sits next to me on the bus. None of this is fair, but it's what I feel, not what I ought to.
I have found the same thing. But I also found it for natives. I grew up in Calgary, and I always referred to anyone without white skin as "peopel with brown skin" and one day at my elementary school I saw older girls who actually had black skin. I never heard a single thing about people's skin colour, and certainly nothing about everyone being in their own "race." There is only one race, the human race.

Then I went to Northern Alberta, and for my first year in boarding school it was fine, but then in grade 8 I heard a bunch of people start saying that they "hate Jews." I heard people say things which clearly showed contempt for natives. There was actually a person from Calgary there in grade 8 who had a Chinese mom, and I heard someone (one person) refer to him as a "half-*****." Apparently it's ok to be white or Chinese, but not not a "half-*****." Yikes.

Anyway, when I was in grade 10 a native guy from the North-West Territories was at my school, and though I sometimes thought of him as a completely normal person, someone who I liked far more than the other ass-tards at my school, sometimes I felt a lot of contempt for him. The reason? He was with that whole rap loving semi-gangster thing. At other times, he was wearing glasses and looked very intellectual, but then he wore those wretched jeans and did the side-to-side gangster walk, and I couldn't help but feel he was somehow a punk. Eventually I realised that everyone at my school was a punk, and concluded that I hated him the most for it because his skin colour made me notice his gangster antics more. That may not be wholly true, but it could certainly be a reason.

Still you're contempt for the people with black skin may not be unwarranted. It could be because of gangster culture and feeling like you're black, which pisses me off. The real test is if you don't like someone with black skin who is clearly very smart refined. Then you probably are racist. But it's not like that makes you a bad person if you no longer feel that at some point.

I dislike anyone who immigrates to my country without proper knowledge of the language.
Quite a bit.

EDIT:

Anyways, to contribute a little more.

I don't think it's unfounded to feel uncomfortable with another race.
People spend so long attempting to shove multiculturalism down your throat that you begin to wonder why it is they're trying so hard.

Also, what the fuck is with the "Yes, but I'm a minority so it's not so bad" selection of the poll?
Way to further the ideal that minorities hating on majorities isn't racist.

Woo.

Racism makes the world go round. The fleeing black guys' feet apply a force to the surface of the earth causing it to spin.

OT: Of course I am racist. Only blind people aren't. I don't go round making anti-black mobs but I can't honestly say that I don't make negative distinctions between races in my mind.

I look at people on an individual level. If they're assholes, I hate them. If they're nice, I don't. I'm an equal opportunity hater.

Im an equally oppurtunity racist. white people piss me off more thanany other race, but when a maxican friend calls me a kyke ((Im Jewish)) I feel no compunctions ((if I cant think of something better at the time)) for calling him a spic.
I think this world would be a lot better off if people would stop being so god damned sensitive about everything and learn to suck it up.

do the Bog hermits know anything about changelings? or is that completely different?
No, bog hermits are rarely mistaken for human children, nor are we mystical in any way, as changelings are. It is completely different.
