I feel misplaced, I've heard very little of the show, and I never saw even a single episode.

Blame it on my attitude to generel TV.

I also loved Dollhouse. That took some time for me, I couldn't stop thinking "oh, it's Eliza Dushku in cute outfits" then it seemed the story really took off and I was thinking a Neo-like "whoa".
Even though I'm skeptical that I'd watch it again I did enjoy the build up during the first seasons, once it reached its stride. The second season . . . it felt like the first few episodes were faffing about despite the second lease on life, and then the last half of the season was a rush job to fit three or four seasons worth of overarching story into half a dozen episodes. If it had managed several seasons and a slow build up I think it could have been excellent, as it is I think the majority of episodes muddle the interesting intrigue and Alpha story line.

You're right that a lot of firefly doesn't make sense. Supposedly these homesteaders are put down with very little but the cultural shift is hard to believe. If that's catching in your craw I could definitely see why Firefly didn't appeal to you.

Firefly also never explains why all of these places have Earth-like gravity. When it started I thought were were looking at multiple solar systems, but later it seemed there was just one . . . so either there are a ton of Earth-sized terrestrial planets in or near the Goldilocks Zone or somehow all of these little moons can have extra gravity terraformed into them. :)

To each their own. I personally can't stand Dr. Who.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I still think you're a monster ;)

Actually I'd say Doctor Who is a very acquired taste. It's quite silly and the new series often leans on the nostalgia factor of the classic series, and if you never watched the classic episodes you can't be nostalgic for them.

Never got time to watch it, was going to but then I read that they already cancelled it after a few eps so I figured it wasn't good.

Wazzuh? Firefly? What's that? All I know of it is that Borderlands referenced it with Jaynistown and Jaynis Cobb, but that's it.

I found it...uninteresting...and I love Whendon work, Angel, Buffy, Dollhouse, Runaways, Astonishing X-Men, but Firefly...I tried twice...but...could NOT get into it, also note: I love COWBOY BEBOP. So I dont know what was it about Firefly that I didn't like...

I've never seen it. I keep getting told to see it, but I just don't care enough to get involved with a show that was cut short by fox.

I don't understand the fervor people have for it either.

It's alright... I thought it was kind of fun. I don't care that it was cancelled though...
It was canceled mostly due to fox television's mishandling of the show

"the train job" was actually the first episode to air, not the pilot

Everyone I know that has seen the show loves it, and so do I. But of course these are all people with similar interests, which is way I associate with them. Personally I watch the show all the way through and cap it off with the movie every 6 months or so. More often if I'm introducing it to someone new. But hey, it can't work for everyone.

it was okay but it had way to much of a western vibe for a future show if they just made it a bit more futuristic and a bit less western it probably would've been the greatest but as it is it's just Meh to me plus I think Outlaw Star did a better job as a futuristic show

Hmm I thought it was rather hit and miss personally. It was a shame it got cancelled but I wasn't that broken up over it.

I see where you're coming from. I personally had a decently fun time with it, but it has a lot of problems, most of which are endemic to Joss Whedon as a writer and director (the constantly just-a-bit-too-clever dialog, the relationships that always end badly out of nowhere, etc.). Him and his shows get a huge cult following because they cater so openly to nerds otherwise under-served by mainstream television, but neither are as great as the pedestal they've been placed on would lead you to believe.

Also, as someone who has spent the past several years studying the Chinese language, it always annoys the fuck out of me how tacked on the Chinese elements are and how impressed so many people seem to be with them. They are completely inconsequential window dressing displaying no real knowledge or insight.

EDIT: Oh, I also thought I should point out that the number of people who like Firefly is actually much smaller than most people in this thread seem to perceive it to be. Its fan base is an extremely vocal minority which happens to be concentrated in the circles we frequent, creating an illusion of extremely widespread popularity which got Serenity made. I say illusion because Serenity then failed to make back its budget in theaters (going by the world wide gross listed on imdb), showing that the actual fan audience was not nearly as large as had been supposed.

WHAT?! Shocking!

Not what you said, that there was sense spoken that early in the thread.

I forced myself to watch it, but didn't really enjoy it. Feel the same way as you, most people who like the same things I do seem to love firefly, and it comes across to me as just plain bad. I didn't like any of the characters, except for the main guy, which is kind of the opposite of you, and I thought the setting was kind of stupid.
