I already do, but I might stop if they became legal. I mostly like the part where it makes me feel like a rebel! That's why I don't smoke. (Except in places where it isn't allowed (maternity wards.))

Kidding aside, depends on the drug. I'd keep going as I am now really. And stay the fuck away from shit like heroin and meth, that stuff is scary as hell.

I don't even take legal drugs (barring medications, naturally). No interest at all. And I'm a fair bit cannibiphobic, so weed is straight of out of the question.

Even if I were so inclined to use drugs, it's too expensive and I already have an expensive hobby.

Ehhh, I've seen other things on that list go by fine.

It's really about context.

Umm, I don't drink alcohol or smoke and the only caffeine I get is from chocolate really so... no. No I would not take drugs regardless of their legality (excluding medication, even then I'm trying to avoid using stuff like paracetamol now).

Weed is kinda legal here. And I smoke it. As for your thread's title though...I wouldn't do any other drug.

Nope. I didn't on a moral basis before, but I took a psychology course which involved a bit of neuroscience. When the subject of drugs came up, the only think I could think was "JESUS that stuff fucks with your brain" and now I don't do it out of wanting to have a healthy brain.

The only stuff I'm interested in are opiates because they work for me as pain relief, and they mitigate pain from a chronic gastro-intestinal condition I have to put up with. I already have a legal prescription though, so I don't have to prank around with illicit shit getting dealt out by shifty no-good sons of bitches.

I went a long time without taking anything. I wouldn't even take an aspirin for a headache. Recreational drugs, and people who claim that they "need" them, have proven to be a waste of time in my past experience. I (grudgingly) take something so I can function and hold a place in the workforce/my community/etc/life... taking something to escape my life seems like a waste.

I don't have a problem with medical marijuana for people it can help, but I have heard so much bullshit about it at this point that I really don't care. I had someone suggest marijuana might help with the pain from all the damage in my back. I replied, "Yeah, if all I wanted to do with my life was to lay around on the couch all day, getting high, eating funyuns and watching cartoons"

absolutely not

The only circumstances under which I would take mind altering drugs would involve having no real choice in the matter. The mind is our only real asset in this life. F***ing around with it is in my opinion a lot like shutting down an airplane's engines mid flight just for kicks. Even if you are 99.99% positive that nothing permanent will happen, it is still an incredibly dumb decision.

Nah. I would probably try cannabis at least once, but I don't even smoke tobacco or drink alcohol, and that's stuff's legal. I just don't see the appeal of any drug really.

Yes but there's a kicker to this. I would still stay away from designer and hard drugs. THC is the only one I'd use, only because it does a lot to keep certain brain quirks I have in check. Insomnia, racing thoughts, manic episodes, depression and anger control issues are all quelled with THC usage. I've been on pharmaceuticals for those issues and none of them have worked near what THC does for me.
I also believe, from experience, that it isn't the drug that necessarily makes people lazy (still talking THC here) or stupid or any of the so-called negative effects. Those who I've known who "fit" that category already have those negative qualities because they don't take care of their mental state, or simply don't give a rat's ass. THC just brings out those negative qualities more.
Everything you ingest has an effect on your body, whether its "healthy" or not. This is not an argument that certain drugs are harmless, nothing is harmless if taken to an extreme amount. Water can kill you if you drink too much, and thats one of our most BASIC needs. Moderation is key, in any case.
I also won't argue that THC is for everyone, because its not. Just like some people can't eat shellfish, some people react strongly (and negatively) to THC. But I will say from personal experience that THC has done more good for me than any of the things that an M.D. has prescribed and I've not experienced any withdrawls or any addictive tendencies with it. Rent was still paid, lights were still on, food was on the table. Hell the quality of my work improved noticeably. Also I didn't really start using it until my late teens/early 20's aside from random encounters between 14-17.
I think the harder drugs are taking things too far because you have to refine them from the base ingredients, and it just doesn't sit well with me. But THC can be taken from the plant and used as a cooking ingredient, you don't have to smoke it to get the effect and harm your lungs with the extra crap you inhale. Interesting note, speaking of refining/making drugs, meth is the drug I'd say is most harmful considering the ingredients used to make it. I mean its just a ton of harmful shit mixed together in a process in which making the most potent form of is about 1/2 a second from blowing up your lab. And people fucking smoke it.
Still there's a lot of fearmongering when it comes to Pot/THC and thats unfortunate because its beneficial to people with chronic pain, sleep issues or anger/depression/manic tendencies. And the whole "gateway drug" thing is bullshit. Getting high on pot doesn't lead to cocaine/crack/meth/LSD/MDMA/etc. use, its the fact that it is still illegal and therefore carried by drug dealers who most likely have a source to another drug. If merely getting high/fucked up was a gateway to hard drugs then everyone who got drunk would be moving on to something harder since THC gets you much less fucked up than alcohol. Most it leads to is laughter, munchies and (in some people) paranoia... Everybody's different.
Quoth the late Bill Hicks:
?I know this is not a very popular idea. You don't hear it too often any more ? but it's the truth. I have taken drugs before and ? I had a real good time. Sorry. Didn't murder anybody, didn't rape anybody, didn't rob anybody, didn't beat anybody, didn't lose ? hmm ? one fucking job, laughed my ass off, and went about my day. Sorry. Now, where's my commercial??
And one more:
?Here is my final point...About drugs, about alcohol, about pornography...What business is it of yours what I do, read, buy, see, or take into my body as long as I do not harm another human being on this planet? And for those who are having a little moral dilemma in your head about how to answer that question, I'll answer it for you. NONE of your fucking business. Take that to the bank, cash it, and go fucking on a vacation out of my life.? -Bill Hicks

No. I'm not that well informed on drugs, but the harder ones scare me. What it does to people is awful and there's no telling what they'll do. Had a few encounters with junkies and it has been terrifying. Been drugged unknowingly twice as well. One of the times I could've died and the other left a complete five hour blank in my head.

As for the tamer drugs... Well, I believe the gateway drug theory is right, especially if everything would be legal, so I'm kind of against it too. I'm all for "your life, your choice as long as it doesn't hurt other people" though, which makes me torn on the issue. The fact that I smoke, snuff and drink alcohol doesn't help either(ex-coffeine addict, aw yiss).

I don't even drink alcohol, so no.

I've been curious about medicinal qualities of some drugs, but I still doubt I'd do 'em.

The only thing I would continue to do is smoke weed. The one that still does next to no damage and has many good uses.

The legality or otherwise has never bothered me. That said, I wouldn't do any, I've done most of them to death and I'm not really interested anymore. I voluntarily gave up my diamorphine script back in March and once you can't be arsed with free government stash heroin you pretty much can't be arsed with any of it.

...would you use them? So I'm currently in the process of writing an EPQ at school, and I've chosen the topic of drug decriminalisation. This got me thinking about whether or not it would change anything, as in whether drug use would increase. So, would you take recreational drugs if they were legal? If so, what would you use? For me, I'd probably try cannabis, it just sounds like my kind of thing, even though I've never really felt like I've ever needed to enhance my life with drugs. I could probably even try some MDMA or LSD, assuming that I knew exactly what I was taking. What about you guys?
No I wouldn't(actually I'd probably try pot once just to say that I did, but only once), but decriminalization isn't about stopping people from using, it's about preventing and treating addiction. On that note, it seems to be working pretty damn well for Portugal.

Personally speaking, I firmly believe that all drugs should be legal, and therefore government regulated in the same way that alcohol and tobacco are. I also believe that overall drug use would decrease if they were all illegal. Reason being, for a lot of people, the only reason they try drugs in the first place is because they are doing something that they are not supposed to do. I know some people that used to drink alcohol all the time before they were of legal drinking age, but now that they're old enough to legally drink, they don't anymore. Drug use would probably be the same way.

Also, just because something is legal doesn't mean that everyone is going to do it. For example, tobacco is legal if you're over 18 (at least in the US), and I don't smoke. Granted, I do drink alcohol, but I'm 33 and I'm responsible about it. I've got no personal interest in taking any sort of drug, prescription or otherwise, if for no other reason that I'm immune to the majority of them.

Ah I'm old and have kids so I barely even drink anymore outside of a beer or glass of wine with my evening meal. Yet I have said in the poll I already do because legality didn't affect my choices in the past.

I am an advocate of the legalization of most drugs with the exception of amphetamines.

No thanks. I can't smoke anything (asthma) and I don't like messing with my brain chemicals to get a fleeting high that's known to be addictive (so no alcohol, either).

ASMR is about the craziest I get.

No laws can dictate what I can or cannot do with my own body, if I wanted to use drugs I'd be using them already. That said, I would not use drugs even if they were made legal, firstly the health effects can be pretty devastating and secondly I simply have no desire to use any of those that are currently on the market.

Now if there was something like NZT-48 available that would be a different story...
