Some of my "most" serious relationships were with people online. One lasted for 2 years off and on (even though he is the one that emotionally scared me for the rest of my life). The other lasted for a year. The last few lasted for 5-6 months. I met all four of 'em and we had a blast in person. I was able to see my last ex more cause he lived in NY. NY + NJ = Easy. But really, it's not really a relationship if there's no physical contact. After awhile, words aren't just enough. You'll want to hug, hold hands, go out, etc.

Unless both parties can pull through and eventually one of 'em makes the move to be closer to the other, online relationships are pretty much "eh". I'm happy with my boyfriend now. We both had pretty lametarded online relationships so we have so much in common.... minus the fact that we've known each other since we were 14 in high school... ♥ Kyle.

If we're talking about meeting up and dating people online, I'd prefer to meet people up through friends and in real life.

But if it's just say, meeting you guys up at a convention or just a get together, I'd have no problem with that.

If it came down to me meeting someone through online, I guess I would do it, though I'd be reluctant. I'd rather meet people naturally and form a bond through a genuine connection and personally I don't think you get that through the internet, at least not usually.

So, I'd prefer to meet them physically rather than virtually online, but I'd date online if I'd have to.

I don't think I've ever heard that term being used without a pun being intended. Now I'm sort of frightened...

Personally, online dating doesn't really intrigue me. Neither does going to a singles night at a bar or whatnot. Something about going into the situation with the aim of findin' a mate doesn't appeal. That's probably why my relationship with Purps has been so great. This forum was a place I could go to escape from romantic drama that just sort of happens when you're an attractive female who relates easily to males. I never talked about my appearance, and when I first joined I didn't talk about my gender too much. That's actually what Purps first message was about; he apologized for assuming I was male. In the thousands of messages we shared we were hardly ever flirtatious and didn't behave as anything other than friends (actual friends, not I'm-just-getting-my-nerves-up-to-ask-her-out friends). We both dealt with each other like people, which is something extraordinarily hard to find in real life, and genuinely refreshing.
Eventually our conversations transformed from a pleasant pastime to an all-out addiction, and when he came up to visit we were already in love. But! We weren't 'in a relationship' until we'd met face to face (and he failed to harvest my organs like internet people should).

Point is! I think meeting people online is possibly superior to meeting them in real life if you're not into playing complicated games and trying to fit into/avoid gender stereotypes. Of course, distances create a tremendous downside.

We had no intentions of dating, romance, or even meeting one another in mind when we first talked. Though unlike chatiing to anyone else here, or on any other type of medium, I couldn't let her go. We became strongest of friends, and shared so much more (jokes, tales and whatnot) than any of my own. That past-time did turn into an addiction like you said, eventually rushing home from work and loosing days of college just to talk to you. That's something I had never experienced, getting so caught up on someone, that I valued simply reading their text and typing my own little posts back to, more than anything else in my entire life. To the point I realised that it was something more than I first thought it out to be.

I guess, this is how I can't understand online dating through dating websites or actually going out and looking for people. It may work, but each person has the same thought it mind of getting hooked-up. So it wouldn't just suddenly strike you that you're in love, nor could you find it through talking and spending days thinking of them, it's more as if you're trying to force yourself to get into love. And that doesn't make sense to me.
