I barely watch it anymore, but whenever I see new episodes, they are mostly funny and entertaining to watch.

The Cleveland Show on the other hand............I watched the first episode, thought it was alright, decided to give it another chance. I don't think I bothered watching all of the second episode.

going downhill because they have the same original writters as opposed to the Simpsons who keep getting new writters in.

It's because they are liberals and won't make fun of their god, Obama.
You take the political jokes out of the equation, you are left with half the show.

Yes. Family Guy has always been derivative, boring, unoriginal, and unfunny. It's like The Simpsons for people who can't think. You can't go downhill when you already start at the bottom. The only way to do that is to dig a hole.

The show stopped being funny when it became a sounding board for the writer's political and social opinions. I get that MacFarlane hates Bush and Republicans in general, but there it no need to keep driving it home. The best political satire is subtle and MacFarlane is anything but.

I hated the show after it came back from its 2 year long hiatus, thank you Adult Swim. I thought the first few seasons had some genuine funny moments, like that sex gag between Lois and Peter while talking about drugs, the first chicken fight scene, Spring Break, and that is pretty much it.

There are some episodes I enjoyed, like the Road to Rhode Island episode. Sure it was a rip off of Snoopy Come Home, but there was a lot of good material in that one.

My problem is that I hate the running gags on that show. I hate how mean they are to Meg, I hate that Meg does not stand up for herself. The chicken joke was funny the first time, but got old in a heartbeat. Herbert was interesting the first time, but got disturbing. And yes, we get that Quagmire is a sexoholic.

Family Guy is a lot like trailor park boys, tell your brain to go fuck off for a half hour and just stare at the screen retardedly in between chuckles and mouthfuls of cheetos. For best results do this in your underwear

I tend to think it's pretty weak when compared to the social relevance and occasional brilliance of South Park and the surprisingly good and severely underrated American Dad.

My biggest gripe comes from the heavy handed political edge (see Brian's random diatribes) the show tries to deliver that is better accomplished through satire of the aforementioned shows.
South Park is easily the greatest animated show of our generation. The only one that ever came close to its brilliance and sheer entertainment value would have to be Futurama. Unfortunately it was aired on the Fox network, and if Firefly has taught us anything its that Fox hates success and apparently feeds off of the hate of the mass public
Ahhhh Futurama, what a brilliant show that was. At least Comedy Central/Adult Swim occasionally air some reruns. On the plus side, Groening will sometimes bless us with a Futurama movie.

What's the deal with people hating Family Guy so much? I think that the last two seasons have actually been among the funniest. The entire segment with the brain-damaged horse had me in stitches, for some reason.

It used to be funny, now it's just 30 minutes of Seth Macfarlane's opinions. Lots and lots of his opinions.

Sorry for being the one to break this to you, but Family Guy has been a subpar show ever since its conception.
That. I never really found it funny. I miss King of the Hill. :(

There was a time when it wasn't going downhill? I'll admit, I've liked a few episodes, but I've always thought the series tried too hard.
