I specifically ask for money, I get annoyed when people think they know me better and buy gifts instead. So it's definitely not considered rude by me or anyone I know, a lot of people much rather like the freedom of choice it gives them. You can save it up, or splash it on anything ya' fancy :3.

It's not rude, in fact I think it's much better to get cash as a present. That way I can buy something I'm definitely going to want/like rather than pretending to like something in the event of getting something shit.

Depends who you're getting it for really. Still better than gift cards.
See, I agree and disagree. Although the present itself isnt better than cash, it still shows that you went to said store and possible looked for a suitable present.

Better be cash because a person does not know the other good enough rather than pick something he might hate.
Sometimes they actually hit the spot..
I got one of those wooden soldiers that jump when you pull the rope attached to their anus from my girlfried (Among other stuff which I would keep to myself mmmmkay). A random guess by her that I truly love. Nothing more fun than doing that while on a Skype serious conference call.

Depends how sentimental and shallow the person in question is. I personally don't think that a GIFT is even capable of being rude. Unless it's something bought out of spite like a vibrator or a weight-watchers catalog or something. Needless to say, I love getting cash, because if something I want is affordable, I'll buy it. The things I actually want and don't have already are way out of gift price range, but if I got cash from everyone I could put it all together towards the same thing.

I got money for Christmas this year, along with a magnet puzzle, a zombie Mario t-shirt, and MOGWORLD, and I don't think it's rude.
It just lets you choose what you want.

CASH WORKS. When I recieve my pay and peasy amount left over after bills is what I have to survive on. Cash lets me get something for myself for once

no, at least, not if they dont ask for something. If they ask fors oemthing specific, then yes, but other then that, its better then getting something they might not like. Where cash is just universal.

I prefer cash over gift cards or crap that I don't want. At least cash is good everywhere. If you want to add a personal touch you can always write a note or something.

I recently read a book on good manners, and it said that giving cash for chrismas is A-OK.

If you feel comfortable, go for it!

I don't find it rude to give someone cash for a present. In this day and age of increasing consumer debt (especially this time of year), you could appreciate the present by using it to pay off some of that debt instead of getting something else to collect dust in your place. Cash is a pretty universally accepted gift, and a lot more useful than something you didn't want in the first place. Who doesn't need extra money that they find it rude to get any?

I see it more as incredibly lazy, that you can't be bothered to get a fun present for someone. If you ask me, giving a present is not about how expensive it is, but it is to show how well you know that person and that you're fond of them.
I don't know I mean my friend is into a wargame called warmachine and I had no idea what to get him what he has so I got him like a gift card he can use online to buy the models he needs so I don't think it is lazy at all.

I don't consider it rude, but lazy. On the other hand I don't mind it at all. I like getting the money so I can buy something I want but didn't get.
Just ordered Red Dead Redemption and some other games with my new christmas money. <3

I wouldn't call it rude but it's a half assed dick move imo. I mean are you going to play with the cash, eat the cash, try and put your songs on the cash? No. So now you have a hypothetical gift in your head, that you have to wait or fight in week after xmas shopping for.

I prefer cash. You know that guy who you don't know what to get for because when he wants something he'll go out and buy it? It's me. I am that guy. And if you give me cash I'll have more money to buy things I want when I go out and buy it.

Of course, if other people think that's bad, I would strive to give them gifts that are a hideous parody of what I understand their interests to be. That'll show'em.
