I am very into Punk Rock! The Ramones, The Clash and The Sex Pistols for earlier stuff. Love Iggy Pop and The Stooges. The Pixies, The Dead Kennedys and NOFX (for some okay modern punk). More modern punk (which is pretty good) is The Mr.T Experience. Not so big a fan of New York Dolls though.
I'm not sure about Pixies as punk, they're more alternative rock (and sort of proto-grunge).

As for my punk habits, I occasionally indulge in the Clash or The Ramones, but that's it.

punk rock is basically dead.

there just isn't anything out there nowadays thats can even be mentioned in the same breath as the Adolescents, TSOL, Social Distortion, Radio Birdman, Iggy, the Adverts, etc

they're all just posers now; its all gone mainstream, to the point where people don't even know what it is or how it started. you ask someone if they like punk, and they say, "well, i like green day and fail out boy"

i hate to be that elitist prick, but very little outside of the seventies/early eighties is real punk

If you look at the bands that are getting more gigs at "punk" shows like warped tour etc.. I would say that punk is dead. I used to be an avid punk rocker, and have since lost the taste for anything these days that classifies itself as "punk". I only listen to a select few bands that I feel still hold true to the genre, such as Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, Against Me!, NOFX and a couple others. Punk died in 2002 in my mind, when emo took over the waves, causing a lot of good bands to become more emotional to sell more records, and thus more shitty.

I'm not hugely into punk, but I love The Clash and Bad Religion.
I also like some semi-punk bands like The Offspring and Rise Against, if they count.
Punk is definitely not dead. Traditional 70's/80's punk is dying out though, and it's generally becoming either more like metal or more like pop rock.

I haven't been into punk in a long time. For a while it was alright, then when it got big at first it was still good. But for so long I think the music has been written by executives instead of by musicians, and now we just have similiar lyrics and sounds over and over again.

Yeah, I reckon punk's still going, if not as strong as it has been.

As for listening to punk, I like the Sex Pistols, Bad Religion, The Clash and Offspring, among others.

Rise Against as well, although they haven't got the punk sound anymore, but still have punk-esque lyrics.

Despite the fact they're acctualy pretty popular Gallows are acctualy also fairly punk, it's not like they acctualy have a really commercial sound or anything, there's a few good hardcore bands like Ghost Of A Thousand, Set Your Goals and Random Hand as well. Apart from that I think punk died along with Carl Crack, member of the last and greatest ever punk band Atari Teenage Riot.

If that isn't punk as fuck I don't know what is.

EDIT: Props to the guy who mentioned 5 Knuckle, although they've split up.

EDIT: FUCK PEOPLE WHO SAY RISE AGAINST ARE PUNK WITH A FUCKING HAMMER. I don't think (hope) nobody has said that here, but just for future reference, K?) EDIT: Ninja'd, sorry guy above dont mean to cause offence.

The ethics of punk are far more important than the music ever was. The music was generally f*cking awful, but the self belief and f*ck you attitude was hugely important. Punk Ethics should be taught in schools. Give the anarchy some focus.

Yes I do...mainly the Clash, Sex Pistols and The Jam.

If anyone, and I do mean anyone, says that Green Day are punk.

Well I will have to come over and kick you in the balls; They arn't punk, they are Nu-punk (in other words Punk lite) and thus, are shit
Even Jello Biafra?
Because I'm afraid he said it once. Albeit about 10 years ago.
I have no idea who that is, so yes even him

I have found it hard to find any proper modern Punk Rock nowadays. Could try Amanda Palmer some of her stuff carries a certain Punk Rock air to it.

NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONO. ALSO NO. AND I'D JUST LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT NO. P.S: NO.

Those bands are commercial whores, like the Backstreet Boys with mohawks and that is as far as one can possibly get from punk.

Is early D.R.I punk? I know by the time Crossover came out they were pretty much hardcore, but what about Dealing With It and The Dirty Rotten LP, punk?

Either way i love punk, The Clash, The Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Pixies, The Misfits, The Adicts, FEAR, Cheap Trick, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, Black Flag, The Stooges, Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, but i hate to admit it is dead. Haven't heard anything good come out of the punk scene in quite a while (Me First and the Gimme Gimmes don't count cuz they're a cover band, but they still rock).

I wouldn't say it's dead, but it's not being played on mainstream TV and radio. That's devoted to emo garbage, boy bands, and "R&B" hacks.

KNDD in Seattle actually plays some of the old punk now and again, some of the newer stuff too, but the Pistols, Ramones, DKs and their contemporaries can be heard fairly often.

Guess what? If it's got 3 chords and is trying to make a statement, it's punk. People sitting around and arguing what is or isn't 'punk' just come off as elitist twits.

It's always been about being being pissed off about something and writing a song about it.

Besides, stop and think about it. You really don't get much more pop sound than the Ramones in the end.
