I had a great time with DA2 and 100%ed it in under two weeks. The biggest issues can be blamed on EA rushing the game out when it was only 75% done, but I have faith that with a longer developpement time the third game will be much better.

Ok stop reading here people if you didnt finish both games.

SPOILERS:

DA3 is probably going to fuck it's self over in my opinion. I loved DA:O and in the end gave up my own life and in DA2 they mentioned the Warden went missing so what my body decided it didn't like the dirt their and got up and left c'mon. Story is going to be hard to fix but not impossible.
In that situation, the Warden is probably referring to the Warden Commander, who was the Character in the Awakening expansion if you didn't import a character from Origins, or your character died.
Or that could just be one of the plot holes, either or.

When Dragon Age 2 was first announced, Bioware said they wanted to make DA their hardcore RPG series and have Mass Effect as their more action-oriented series. That's what annoys me so much about DA2 - Bioware turned DA into an action-heavy button masher. There's already plenty of games like that around and there's less and less available for those of us who like our complex tactical RPGs. And we don't want an "awesome button".

It's not like a movie where the bad sequel can kill a franchise with a good first movie. They can always improve and I personally think they need to make all characters abilities done by the player similar to the Star Wars KotOR, but alas that is not marketable and they will probably dumb it down more then the second did the first.

This is getting seriously old, the game got an 8/10 that's pretty alright. Origins gotta perfect 10, you can't expect something tonged perfect 10s on all 3 shots. Just calm down, don't be that guy no one like that guy...*sigh*Now I gotta play Dragon Age and get %100 again, thanks.

I think the crap given to DA2 is largely undeserved. This is not to say it is without its flaws. The constant reuse of the same dungeon schemes, even in different areas, has no excuse. Things such as re-imagining the dark spawn look, giving them skin tight chainmail . . . was not only a step in the wrong direction, making them look less threatening and even perhaps comical, but doesn't make much sense given what they are. I can forgive them changing the Qunari, because they state that not all Qunari have horns, and that explains Sten.

But seriously, it was still FUN. I mean a lot of fun. The characters, great. The story, . . . fragmented but great. The combat, entertaining.

So I would argue it doesn't even need saving. So long as they take some of the criticism to heart the next one will be great.

Bioware, Bioware, Bioware. We need to talk.

Remember Dragon Age: Origins? With it's originality, and deep world, fantastic quests and stories, characters that you fell in love with, and DLC that drew you in.
That's what we were looking for in Dragon Age 2.
What the hell happened?

I mean, look at Mass Effect. The original, Good. The Second, Fantastic. The Third, Better damn well live up to the hype better than Duke Nukem Forever.

Is there anything Bioware could do better to revive hope in Dragon Age as a franchise, or did they pretty well kill it with Dragon Age 2?
Dragon Age :Epsiode 4 A New Hope...... DA2 was good, bt lacked the immersion of DA1. I wanted more fu**ing enviorments and maps for sure, butttt it was good enough to beat twice.

The writing of DA2 was far better than that of DAO. If you can't look over the gameplay flaws to the more important parts of the game, then maybe the series isn't for you.
As good as the original was, the plot of DAO was mindbogglingly unoriginal. It's not the devs problem if you are afraid of change.

I hope DA3 is more like DA2 with the story and atmosphere from the first game. I greatly preferred the actual gameplay from the 2nd game compared to the slow boring combat from Origins.

I think they should keep the more fast paced version of DA:2 but give the option for it to be a complex more or less turn based game. Also, the story could use a lot more work; but even if none of this was changed, I'd still enjoy another installment.

I am honestly sick of hearing about how DA2 ruined the franchise and how some people believe it is the downfall of the modern RPG. Go on to Bioware Social Network Forum and people are going crazy and using hyperbole and saying Bioware sold out.

Honestly there was some bad parts about DA2 but I thought it was one of the few games that the companions feel like living characters. The fact they have a relationship with each other was quite amazing because as people who played Mass Effect know- not one of your crewmate seem to interact with each other much beside that silly confrontation scenes.

The characters were quite amazing.
Aveline is one of the most original characters of Bioware ever created for example.

I could admit the recycled parts was unforgivable and that it definitely felt rushed.

But overall, Dragon Age 2 made a good step forward in terms of creating a medium to tell a story.

DA2 Ended even in a sadder way than I expected... with my head hanging, dropping the controller and realizing I was done with this game after about 20 minutes of playing. I liked DAO but this wasn't even close. Companies and their evil scemes to make a fast buck on a title that rocked... it's a shame!!!

i never played dragon age 2 but i think they killed the series with dragon age origins. okay maybe thats a little harsh but DA:O was a huge disappointment to me. maybe it was because i was comparing it to the baldurs gate series but while baldurs gate felt like a simplified version of d&d, dragon age felt like a simplified version of baldurs gate. i didnt find the story particularly deep and the only characters i cared about were morrigan and allistar, and thats just because they were funny. ive come to realize im not a fan of bioware, in general. though ive never played the mass effect games.
+1

I also found myself comparing DA:O to Baldur's Gate 2, and in terms of scope, storytelling, and characters, DA:O fell way short. Heck, I even liked BG2's gameplay more, but I think that's just bias.

Mass Effect is tons better than Dragon Age though. ME1, I mean. Give it a shot if you ever have time to kill.

I thought DA:O sucked actually. Maybe because I was comparing it to Morrowind, Oblivion, KOTOR and Mass Effect.

In comparison to the Elder Scrolls games, the invisible walls were ridiculous. If Bethesda can put Morrowind on one CD (and Oblivion on one DVD) with massive worlds fully explorable, why couldn't BioWare do that with Dragon Age? The graphics in DA:O really weren't that good, they couldn't have been taking up that much space.

Compared to other Bioware games like KOTOR, the story was not very good which was supposed to be what seperates Biowares games from those made by Bethesda. If your claim to fame is story, make it a good one. DA2, I didn't get that far into it. Maybe 10 hours and I was done. I bought the guide with it because I like to have RPG guides, it's still shrink wrapped.

There is apparently a Facebook Dragon Age game too. Don't know how that is but I can't say I am excited to play it.

Dragon age pretty much turned me off of ever buying an EA game anywhere close to release time. Year+ out cash in pack all release is the time for me. At least that way I'm not left feeling like I am playing a blank slate with a few missions chipping away at a gray expanse of nothingness.

I'm probably going to find this to be the norm in the future as I don't feel like paying three times the normal price for a game to actually play the whole game.

I personally preferred 2 to Origins. I liked the fact the story was about the character and politics rather then saving the world. I liked the characters better. Merril was cute and lovable, Varric was fun to talk to, Isabella's interactions with Aveline were hilarious, the characters felt real and were well written. I'd say something nice about Anders but I have nothing nice to say about him. Whiny twat. I guess if you can dislike a character on a personal level that's a sign of good writing though lol.

Origins felt drawn out. I found myself thinking many times, can I just not do this? Quests shouldn't be tedious but in Origins they often were. Also it was all so... Brown. To me RPG's need to be more colourful, there's enough brown in shooters nowadays without putting it in my beloved RPG's. That said I preferred the more tactical combat of Origins and the system for talking to characters. I'm not saying Origins was a bad game but I don't see why you're all worshiping it like it's the greatest RPG ever made.

I thought Dragon Age 2 was solid? >.>

It didn't work the exact same magic for me that Origins did but I thought it was an improvement in many ways. Things were more organized and streamlined without losing the complexity and the combat felt faster and more conducive to having to fight mobs of enemies, as well as just generally cooler to watch and participate in.

And yes, it lacked the grand, epic story of DA:O, but you know what? That's all right. The story itself was still well enough written and the characters were all as near and dear to me as in Origins. Just because the story takes place on a different scale(Confined to Kirkwall as opposed to spread all over Ferelden) isn't a bad thing. We're not here to rehash the same old shit, after all.

The only problems I really had with DA2 was the use of copy pasted dungeons and the lacking companion customization. Besides that, the game endeared itself to me quite nicely.

Besides, DA2 still sold like freaking hotcakes and PLENTY of people still loved it enough to warrant a sequel. And hell, even if the fans are bitching now, they're fans for a reason. Whatever most of them say, when DA3 comes out, they'll buy it anyway because it's Dragon Age and more importantly, because it's Bioware. And then they'll ***** about that game too.
