We mourn the dead because we are human. We have evolved to the point where our imaginations allow us to envision a possibility of an afterlife and to live in both the past and the future, not just in the 'now'. These elements have created a culture where the dead are expected to be mourned and remembered.

It's pointless in the sense of it's not going to change anything. It's not going to bring them back, sometimes it doesn't even make you feel better.
I'd be more worried if i lost someone close to me and didn't cry. Unless it was a shock sort of thing, I'd hate to know that I'm completely emotionless.

oddly enough I was at a funeral today. I dont cry at funerals because I guess i'm quite philosophical about death. However crying is a perfectly natural response to strong emotional sadness so its to be expected that some people will cry at funerals.

Nothing wrong with it. Emotions are not a logical response after all, we dont sit down and think about what our emotions should be... we just experience them as and when they come.

I see the point in crying for a loved one that has just died but for some reason I am incapable of doing so I was beside my Grandmother when she died in the hospital and I was really close to her but after she had passed and my other family members were crying all around me I couldn't bring myself to feel sadness I couldn't cry and frankly I have no inclination as to why. Is there something wrong with me?
