; Large quantity of drugs and gil found in their abandoned convertible.

So the new Final Fantasy trailer came out and yes I am aware that there are one or more threads already talking about it (how dare people want to discuss different things about the same game?! use the search function! get off my forums!)

This thread is specifically to talk about the "new" direction the game is taking. My first reaction to the trailer was "Holy shit this is weird and different and I love it!" but after some thought, I've realized that it's not all that different from the modern "medieval" fantasy genre that it's been for two decades (FF6 came out in 1994). This game seems to use more contemporary visual styles; the men don't look like they would seem too out of place in a modern setting (although they would turn some heads for being so trendy) and, well, they drive a pretty normal looking convertible.

I for one am pretty enthusiastic about this title and feel that I now have a reason other than the next Metal Gear to actually get around to purchasing a PS4. I am very glad that they ditched the wonky ff13 combat system (it was fun but not very intuitive) and revisited FF12's more western-RPG inspired system. FF12 was my favorite in the series despite not really even being the same genre as it's predecessors and I'm excited to play another game like that.

What are you opinions escapists?

There's a lot of comments on the lateness of the game. I have a feeling that this is mostly because FF13 was so poorly received and they had to completely gut and overhaul some very large portions of the game; this project was originally known as FInal Fantasy XIII versus after all. Enix seems to be actually listening to their fans and I'd like them to take all the time they need to make the best game possible.

My opinion is that when I'm promised news of Jpop band found dead in dinosaur safari after being assaulted with an unreasonably large sword, I WANT MY FUCKING NEWS OF JPOP BAND FOUND DEAD IN DINOSAUR SAFARI AFTER BEING ASSAULTED WITH AN UNREASONABLE SW - oh, you were describing the trailer. Carry on.

I think I like the more contemporary style - it makes the juxtaposition with the fantasy elements more vivid. I also like the more minimalist style of their clothing - a nice change of pace from their usual over-designing (nothing to poke their own eyes out).

Needs more girls in the party, though.

The sad thing is that your title isn't as unreasonable as people might think. JPop culture in Japan is fucking scary.

I think the car looks fucking hilariously out of place.
If the gameplay is good and the story isn't 95% up it's own ass this time I'll give it a chance.

Wow dude you suck, I clicked on this thread hoping to the kawaii gods that the jpop band that got murdered wasn't the same one who gave one fan a date if you had bought all their albums!

Why do you insist on giving people heart attacks with your click-bait title?

my opinion? this game is never coming out. or if it ever does, it'll be shit.

1st obvious tell that you're bad at making games? you take constantly miss release dates.

2nd obvious tell you're bad at making games? you constantly miss release dates (by years)

3rd obvious tell that you're bad at making games? you have no idea what you want to make, so you keep re-making the same thing, effectively making your game guaranteed to be a financial failure.

Imagine Anita is watching this and rubbing her hands at the idea of making another vid due to all four characters being male. Its a damn sausage fest......i bet even the monsters are all male. lol.

Seriously though, that car looks so weird set next to a massive monster. :) But i liked it, i wonder if the car is just for traveling or if you can do damage with it? Is it an MMO? Or a four player coop? A single player played like Dragons age? Looks interesting, i liked the older clip set in a city.

That title is misleading. I was expecting a hilariously over the top multiple homicide, but it was just some Final Fantasy.

That aside, i wont even consider FFXV if i start hearing the same reception that XIII got.

Misleading title is misleading..

I don't like FF. I don't like japanese pop culture and this game looks ridiculous, overly trendy guys with weird hair driving a convertible and slaying monsters with oversized swords along the way. The gameplay looks nice tho, assuming that thats how it will look like.

At this point literally anything is better than what they've been doing, so there's that.

That being said, I like the graphics engine, the combat style if it IS in fact as fluid as it looks, will be fun to use, and really the modern medieval style is pretty cool. I love being able to chuck a halberd at someone one minute and start racking up AWP headshots the next, not to mention you can get some interesting vehicle designs out of it. If the four characters in the trailer are the only four, it should make for an interesting story - a combination of your traditional JRPG story with your traditional American "Four dudes in a car traveling cross-country" story. Character design could be better, but I've said that about every FF game that was after IV and not set in Ivalice.

Did they ditch the awkward real-time menu-based combat? Where, instead of swinging your sword, you select attack->swing sword from a menu while getting whaled on? Just like you would in real life? If so, I will so play this game. It looks like a goddamn dudebro roadtrip, except there are monsters for some reason (like gas station potty breaks include buying snacks and punching a dinosaur in the face), and this sounds hilarious. As someone who has been on vaguely similar road trips in the past, I can confirm that arguments over what we play on the stereo could definitely have used some monster-based interruptions. Especially when I'm driving and still don't want to listen to 3 hours of classic rock.

I know, I was expecting it to be a case straight out of Phoenix Wright...

If most of the game is a road-trip that would be pretty cool. And the all-male cast seems to fit into the story, not that it should have to. If you want to write a story with guys, then the only thing you should have to say is "because I wanted to."

Although I've never met a Final Fantasy game I liked...GAMEPLAY wise, which is disappointing for such a visual game, but I'm not playing this. I'd give it a greenlight to be developed though, it certainly looks interesting.

I'm not sure I care for the appearance of the gameplay, which looks more like a 3rd person Skyrim or something more than Final Fantasy. Even XII, while doing combat in "real-time" still had an action gauge so you couldn't just keep spamming attacks (nor could the enemy). That seems to have been thrown out the window here, and I just don't know if it's really going to feel like FF. Though considering the past few titles, maybe that's a good thing.

Color me interested, but cautious. Like most of the upcoming releases for the rest of this year and into the next.

Y'know, I actually quite like the look of this trailer. My main gripe with Final Fantasy games, and original Squeenix games in general, is that they're so bloody over-designed visually. Jim Sterling put it into words very well in a video a while back.

But this seems a lot more sensible, and while the weapons are still silly at least the car and costumes look quite well designed if you ask me. Tastes may vary of course, but it looks really good to me. Wonder how the combat goes, my guess is along the lines of that one PSP Final Fantasy.

MFW clicking on thread and watching video :

Seriously OT, if I can get my hands on this, I WILL get my hands on this. If I can't, I will rip my hands from my wrists and THROW THEM TO IT. 13 just came out for PC, there's nothing saying this one wont!

All I want to know is:

Have they found a new director, or is Lightning-obsessed Motomu Toriyama still at large and in charge? Because if he ISN'T, then I'm willing to reconsider my XIII-induced wow to never play another Final fantasy game!

(For the record, I did enjoy XII. Vaan the She-Man and his metal bra notwithstanding!)
