This past summer I was a groomsman in a scottish wedding, so I had to wear a kilt. It was quite the process getting the thing on, but pretty comfortable once I had it. I wouldn't wear one every day, but it was definitely a cool experience.

You don't have to be celtic to wear Kilts. I'm a little bit Irish but I wear a checker like tartan. The way we bagpipe players and Kilt wearer's say that if you are wearing underwear you are wearing a skirt, but if going regimental then you are wearing a kilt. I only wear underwear if i'm going to school (obviosly would be imbarrasing if my lady friends would see my organs). But in public I have no Fear of going regimental.
It's not that.. i just wouldn't feel personally comfortable w/o underwear. i was also just pointing out that specialized behaviors, such as wearing kilts and underwear are just that.. specialized. While i could wear a kilt regardless of ethnicity, it would be unusual in an environment in which it was not meant... i.e. where it is not at least semi-usual to see kilts or where kilts are only seen on certain occasions. It's not unusual to see kilts at a St. Patrick's day parade but it would be unusual(for me anyway) to see one at say... a school w/ a uniform that doesn't allow kilts.
Some people's schools are nazi's. My elementary was strict. If you picked up snow you would get in trouble. My mother didn't want me to wear my kilt without underwear. The truth is is that I love my kilt and wear it any where public. Hell, once I wore it at the Mall of America. Although I didn't see it my father said a women with a purple mohawk gave me a funny look. Most people are blind to see that a Kilt is not a toga. A toga is white and isn't pleated and doesn't have a sporran or a belt.

Kilts are awesome end of story. I'd wear one if I didn't live around a bunch of morons who would confuse it with a skirt.

I wore a kilt just about every time I go to the Highland games.(you call it a skirt, I will find you)
I used to get dirty looks from some people(I wore boxers I sware!!)then when I started carring around a sword, and all of that stopped.

I'm not threatened by kilts. Wearing clothes is a bizarre enough activity for mammals, I'm not about to gripe over someone's individual choice of style in rendered plant and animal wrappings. My centennial 2 cents.

I'm Irish by descent on my mother's side of the family. Yes we wear kilts too, it's not just the Scots. Kilts kick ass, if I had one I'd probably wear it.
Yeah, Irish people wear kilts... Not.
Was that a joke?

The Irish and Scottish have been rather close throughout history, and yes, the Irish have kilts too.

Interesting. Considering that I have lived in Ireland my entire and never so much as seen a kilt dosn't matter?

Bought my first M.U.G. just yesterday. Can't afford a "real" kilt yet, but I get sized tomorrow so I can go buy a couple more MUGS.

I really love these things.

Also I've been in a kimono and I'm whiter than most.

@TheBluesader: check out utilikilts and just do a search on kilts, that's how I found mine.

I come from a heavily Scottish family. My dad has a kilt, my brother has a kilt, and when I have enough money I'm getting my own kilt. My uncle wore a kilt for his daughter's wedding, and my parents go to the annual Robbie Burns day Haggis dinner. In fact, my family is so Scottish that my grandmother actually braved the winds of a TORNADO to save two bottles of scotch whiskey during my uncle's wedding (suspiciously only one full bottle made it back to the house). And to sum up my almost-Scottish-without-being-born-in-Scotland credentials, my name is Scott Elliott.

So after all that, my opinion: kilts are awesome. They make me feel very proud of my culture, and they are eye-catching (women love the kilts). When you wear one, you kinda feel like a beserker. And it's awesome for when you're drunk (a common habit of mine), because you can subtly pee outdoors without having to deal with zippers (damn those infernal things!).

Kilts rock when Adrian Paul is wearing one, otherwise my American skittishness about men in dress-like garments anywhere near me kicks in. If it's plaid and looks like a typical kilt, that's just fine, but the more plain ones kinda weird me out. Eh, sorry, but I don't see a lot of them, so they're a little startling to say the least.

I don't mind if men wore kilts, just as long they wear underwear for the curtisey of others and they didn't wore a kilt everyday.

I've worn them before, even come close to buying one myself to save renting it for every bloody event that warrented one. They are incredibly warm and comfortable and rather easy to get one...

Only problem is how bloody heavy they are.

I've no problem with men wearing skirts, whatever floats your boat.
How would you like the genuine scottish experience of having a claymore pushed through your left nostril and out of your ear canals? I assure you, it is distinctly agonising.

Will the mystery of what's under a Scotsman's kilt ever be solved?
If man: No.

If woman(attractive): only through prolonged investigation.

If you had even a basic understanding of history you would know how wrong you are. We invented the kilt!

@Jobz.
Your not far off. The name Scotland comes from the latin Scotii, the Romans gave this name to the Gael who raided/settled from Ireland. Over time Soctii became Scotland. So Scotland basically means land of the Gael or land of the Irish. Just dont say that to a Scots man!! lol
